Thanks to this report http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=30803 and this one http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=39850 it seemed easy enough to do the six Donalds without having to spend ages driving through the borders! Just looked at the drive in if do the WH route - geez! As mentioned previously, space for at least 5 cars in a well marked spot for anglers and walkers.

In your local wildlife shot, what do you reckon, Eagle or big buzzard? I spend alot of time in the moffat and ettrick hills and although I know there to be the odd golden eagle about occasionally I've never spotted one myself.

It s a Golden Eagle.. look at the wingspan compared to the body length and the "fingers" at end of the wings too ! : )

Hi RTMcB - glad my report was of use  . You had far better weather than I did, I can't deny I'm jealous!

Spotted one during a walk in the Lowthers, near Elvanfoot. A good year and a half ago though!

I was snapping away trying to get a vaguely decent and informative shot of the bird in question! I was aware of the possibility of a golden eagle being present in the area. So happy to have seen one! Loving the Donald's

Cracking report! Great pics as well! Was down here a few days ago, but the weather was pretty poor, lots of low cloud, so we didn't have the views that you had, we'll head back tho, and might try your route, taking in Croft Head and Loch Fell as well. I'm interested in birds, so can you tell me where the bird of prey pic was taken, was it in The Borders or in Dumfries & Galloway, above which hill? Needless to say we saw nothing like that on our walk!

I was stood here NT183081! I was coming down from Ettrick Pen, just before you get to the ruin at Over Phawhope where I spotted it circling. If you think one golden eagle is awesome, I found a much better location to be guaranteed at least 1 sighting if not 5!
