The Buck and a visit to Alford Transport Museum

We parked on the grass verge just before a gate next to Meikle Cairn and just followed the fence line to the summit. It was a bit boggy in parts but better as we gained height. The summit area is nice and rocky and ideal for a lunch stop. We didn't stop as it was pretty windy up at the trig point and returned to the car for a visit to the Transport Museum.

Hi Johnny,

did you find the Pictish symbol incised into the rock near the summit? The Buck is an ace viewpoint, perhaps at it's best when everything is frozen solid

PS - Your last three reports are making me very jealous; I live just outside Alford and am in the middle of a four month spell of working away....

Hi Ian, no i didn't know about the symbol, wish i had as would have looked for it. We had 4 days of very enjoyable walks during our stay, cheers.

I absolutely loved Alford Museum! Great that one can get into some of the vehicles. Do they still have the "penny farthing" bicycle you can sit on and pose for pictures?

It's still there, along with some very uncomfortable looking bikes, but it wasn't available for any poses.

and the tank you can sit in?

I don't remember a tank but there was a Mack truck which Aberdeen council used as a snow plough for years before retiring it to the museum and it was available for posing
