The Long Ridge of Carn na Nathrach

This was my second hill outing in 3 days. Today I walked with the Glasgow Hillwalking Club.

I drove up on the Thursday morning and met 4 of the guys from the club at the Ariundlecentre Bunkhouse where they had been staying the night before. Looked a great wee bunkhouse. £18 a night with a restaurant attached.

After leaving the Corran Ferry ( £7.90 per car Johnny Corbett) it’s a 21 mile drive to Kinlochan. We decided to drive the road up to Glen Huirich after reading JCs report as the cottage at Glen Huirich appeared empty. That saved a 3 mile walk in total.

Starting Point

Parked the cars and headed over the bridge and then took a left. Headed up the track until it forks and at the fork took the right hand fork. Continued on the track for a spell until Donnie spotted the cairn on the left hand side of the track.

From the cairn we headed through the forest following a not too bad a path.

Once out of the forest we continued for which appeared to be an eternity along a looonnnngggg ridge which seemed to go on forever. It was up and down with wee bits of snow here and there but no ice axes or crampons required today.

The only obstacle involved was a deer fenced which was pretty easy to climb over. From other WH reports there was a hole in the fence, however it looked as though it had been repaired as there was evidence of fencing all around.

Not too far after the fence there was also a wee scrambly part on the ridge which was easier going up than coming back down, but there was a bypass path on the right on the ascent if required.

We sheltered after 2km out of the wind behind some slabs for a lunch stop before carrying on along the ridge northeast to the summit. Reached the summit in 3hours 20mins.

Stopped again at the summit to refuel and then retraced our steps back to the starting point. 6 hours in total and the rain just started as we reached the car. An enjoyable day out. Thanks guys

Enjoyed this hill . The cheapskate way to do it is to take the bike on the ferry (free) and cycle up Glen Scaddle. Or claim your money back from JC

I'm lucky enough to live and work in this area , Nathrach is only 15mins away yet I ve only been on her the once .... must sort that out

Aye but hes too tired to do a very detailed report after cycling from the ferry to the starting point to avoid paying for the car on the ferry
