Dicing with death on the A702

Timing was a bit close - arrived at the church car park just as the last car left after a well attended funeral service - then, holding breath, we walked smartly along the verge as the A702 traffic thundered past. It was great to leave the main road and head up the farm road, then out on to the hill. A most enjoyable walk, and fun at the trig point, first as we played 'spot the earthworks' and then, bit more of a giggle when I fell over backwards. At least we were on a level grassy summit and not a precipitous rocky ridge!

Broomy Law
1.25 hrs, 4.4km, 200m ascent
Back to the car then off to park at Candy Mill - and another nervous walk along a short stretch of the A702. A short walk up the hard track to the mast-festooned summit of Broomy Law. Walking to the 'edge', it was possible to look down on the next objective of the day - the Big Red Barn (also on the A702, big carpark). It lived up to expectations - the hot chocolate (and cake) was just what was needed at the end of the day. Highly recommended.
Earlier we had thought of parking here and heading up 'cross country' to Broomy Law, certainly that way would have avoided walking on one stretch of the A702.

Thank goodness most summits are mast-free!

Your report reminded me of the walk along the grass verge in Lamington, the verge itself isn't very wide and not to be recommended if you have your 'Sunday best' shoes on
