We had been looking at doing St. Sunday Crag via Pinnacle Ridge for some time & today seemed as good as any. Left the school at Glenridding and headed off up Grisedale.
- The way in, up Grisedale.
Made good time along the path, before heading up the hill side just after Elmhow Plantation. Was warm at the moment and there were clear views all round.
- Gowbarrow Fell over Ullswater.
- Dollywagon Pike to Helvellyn.
Once at the 600m contour, we headed across the fell, until we got to the well marked start of Pinnacle Ridge. The first half is pretty easy going, but the angle of the sun was making it difficult to get any decent photo's.
- KS half way up the ridge.
- Catstye Cam & Raise.
- Nethermost Cove & Helvellyn.
At the "climb" part, the rocks were a little slippy, so as we had no rope, common sense took over and we took the escape path up to the top pinnacle.
- The top pinnacle.
The going was easy from above here and we soon came to the top of St. Sunday. Plenty of distant fells were on show too
- Striding Edge.
- Crinkle Crags and Bowfell make a show.
- St. Sunday Crag.
. A quick spot of lunch was had before heading off down to Birks. Again, the views were great, especially in Hartsop.
- Dove Crag, Hart Crag & Fairfield.
- Angle Tarn and it's pikes, among others.
- One of my favourite Lakeland views.
- Looking back to St. Sunday.
- Glenridding Dodd in the sun.
- Birks.
From Birks, it's an easy descent down to Arnison Crag across Trough Head.
- Heather starting to show.
- The sun catches Arnison Crag.
- Red Screes over Hartsop Above How.
- Ullswater.
- That view again!!
- Arnison Crag.
After savouring the views
it was an easy walk back down to the road, coming out at the back of the Ullswater Hotel, being slightly envious of the people sat having a pint in the sun
- The way down.
