Any bargains on jackets spotted?

Any bargains on jackets spotted?

Postby EwaMH » Wed Jul 29, 2015 10:59 am

Hi all,

looking for any recommendations or bargains anyone has seen recently for a womens lightweight, waterproof and breathable jacket for hiking! It's looking like I'll be sending mine away for some repairs to be done so I'm going to need something decent in the meantime but obviously don't want to be spending too much!

All the thanks in advance !!

I've just had a sale brochure from GO delivered this morning, which includes the purple Regatta Women's Corinne II waterproof and breathable Isolite jacket at half-price for only £20 (with card). Now I know that Regatta is at the lower end of the market, and Marmot it ain't, but if you're not expecting seriously bad conditions and you don't need to count every gram, £20 seems to be quite a bargain to me!

I bought a Rab Atmos at half price from the Outdoor Shop the week before last.

They appear to have a reasonable selection of women's waterproofs in the sale too; https://www.theoutdoorshop.com/womens-clothing/waterproof-jackets.html

I find Bergfreunde to be favourable in terms of price at the moment, their sale is a decent one and I've picked up a few bits and bobs from them.

I'd never used them before, but my jacket arrived with 36 hours of ordering - basically a next day delivery. Very pleased with it, though it is VERY lightweight (which is what I wanted this one for) so not sure how durable it will prove to be.

I'll second this, got a good deal on a sleeping bag and a stove from them, prices are good and the shipping time is good considering it comes from Germany

OK, as my last suggestion didn't even get an acknowledgement, I've also just noticed that Go Outdoors have just reduced the Marmot PreCip jacket (men's/women's) to just £57 (with card), which really is a bargain, and really is a good lightweight, waterproof, breathable jacket - I carry one with me every time I go near a mountain, and can happily recommend it.

Montane Atomic and Haglofs Bliss jackets both £65 at GO. No experience of either but both seem a reasonable start point.

Thanks tenohfive. Both do look good, I think £60 is my upper limit but I'll check what other prices are available for these.

If you're not fashion conscious, you can often get less popular coloured clothing a good bit cheaper. I bought a Marmot Precip jacket in green for £40 less than the same in black, at the same shop.
Not clothing...but I bought a Lowe Alpine compact camera case in green and black for just over half the price of the all black one.

Thanks Border Reiver - that's a good call and something I've noticed before! How do you rate the Marmot Precip??

My current Precip is my second one, the first one is losing a bit of waterproof inner around the neck area, but it's still good for a year or two yet. First one is about 6 years old now. Excellent jackets, very light and packable and the underarm zipped vents help keep condensation down quite well. For days when there may be just a light shower, I carry a Berghaus Cloudline windproof jacket. It's no longer available, but it packs down to a size a bit bigger than a tennis ball, it's got a hood, it's windproof and showerproof. I got it for £25. I'm usually very warm when walking and a runners jacket is a good bet for me for light showers. It sometimes pays to think outside the "walkers" box.
