Set off at 7am and the fog was like pea soup, this continued through to Callander
where it had lifted but the tops of the surrounding hills were covered
Arriving at the layby beside Loch Earn at 8.10 looking up the glen the mist was thick
- Looking up Glen Vorlich
I was confident that once i was on my way it would either lift or i would be above it
This walk i had to put off for the past 2 days due to work so i was now happy to be on my way
at 8.15,reaching the Allt a'Choire Bhuidhe footbridge i turned up the path still in the mist
Shortly after turning up the hill path i started to come out of the mist into blue skies
and sunshine
- Sun coming over Meall na Fearna
All around also was a fantastic inversion what a day
- Inversion looking east over Loch Earn
- Looking over towards the Lawers range
Looking over to the west the mists came rolling up the glen and with the sun to my back
and the mist below i had my first Brocken Spectre not the clearest but i was happy
- Brocken Spectre
After standing looking all around for about 5 mins i set off again on the ascent to the summit
which was a fair haul up but the mind was taken off this with the amazing views all around
And next thing i knew the summit cairn appeared just in front
- Ben vorlich summit
- Jake having a look at Stuc a'Chroin
- The Prow looking form the Vorlich cairn
- Looking up at the Prow from the Bealach
I had a good look at the Prow to see what route to take and decided to head just to the right
of the head on approach,so it was onwards and upwards ,a couple of times
Jake needed a push up
but we soon popped out on top and i delighted to be on the top
- Looking south east down Gleann an Dubh Choirein from top of the Prow
We then headed along to the summit and it was a short walk in beautiful conditions
- Summit pic of Stuc a'Chroin
Shortly after arriving at the summit i met the first walker i had seen all day
a really nice guy who had came up form the Loch Lubnaig side
We both commented of what a great day it was and also how noisy the Stags
were all around also ,we left the summit then to make our decent the other lad
was heading on to do Ben Vorlich
So i left him and headed over to the left to the path that would take us down into
the head of Coire Fhuadaraich and skirt round the side of Ben Vorlich
I stopped here for a bite to eat and give Jake his snack as well
- looking back up at the Prow from Coire Fhuadaraich it looks so intimidating from this angle
I was glad of the recent run of dry weather we were having as i wear approach shoes
and the path now did look as if it could be very boggy at times
It was a bit boggy in patches but nothing too bad
Once we were back on the main path there was a fair procession of walkers heading up now
and the mists had now lift giving me so nice views i had missed on the way up
- Glen Vorlich in its Autumn splendour
- Sunshine on Ben Vorlich great view
- Almost ended Ardvorlich House and Loch Earn
Back at the car now and i was delighted with another GREAT day in the hills
