Torridon Corbetts with tough underfoot conditions

Friday our second day at the WH November meet meant that with us staying at the YH a full day on the hill was available so these two Corbetts were chosen to bump up the Corbett count. Dean was to be joining us at the Parking area at 0800hrs a very early start for him It is the main Beinn Eighe car park on the A896 between the East end of Liathach and opposite Spidean Coire nan Clach on Beinn Eighe. We decided to take the path towards the Ling Hut which meant a river crossing but if there had been a lot of rainfall the route taken on our way back would be preferred ie from car park cross bridge then take the path shown on OS maps to Lochan an Lasgair.

Time to leave the path and head off in the direction of our first target of the day Sgurr nan Lochain Uaine

The next target in the distance Sgurr Dubh, now for a rocky descent where a sudden gust blew me off my feet

Nearly 3k of rock hopping and negotiating various lochans, rough going to say the least

Now for a rocky gully, these two hills are advised to be done in reasonably clear conditions as there are many pitfalls along the way for the unprepared

Another pitfall for the unwary on our return journey to the path we started off

Made it at last on the path and near the Ling Hut, we stayed on the path and carried on to the roadside bridge rather than again crossing the water.

Great photos rod, like you say a few pitfalls to negotiate but luckily we all got back in 1 piece. Wouldn't fancy it in the clag

Hi Dave, great day all the same, but if the underfoot conditions had been a bit drier it might have helped a bit coming off the second Corbett. As you say the main thing was getting off unhurt, similar to Sunday.

Now I know I have to leave these for a good day, don't want to get caught in bad weather among all these rocks
I'm glad they are within hour's drive from home so we can plan a nice summer day for this traverse.

Jeeps! that list of mine is getting longer Rod, you're giving me plenty of excuses to spend more time in Torridon
Looks a good day out and as BP says one to save for a good day for the views and the iffy terrain.

Thanks Martin, these two could be tricky navigation as you probably know already, but save it for a dry clear day and don't rush, just soak in the views, What an area!!!

Rod, bet you're glad you got those done on a clear day, I wouldn't fancy it in clag, bad weather etc.
You must be really happy how this meet gave you such good hills to climb.
A great location that you can keep coming back for more.

Hi Charlie, these are not recommended for poor weather that's for sure, really chuffed to have got them done
I'd come back here again and again, in fact, who knows the next meet might be a return Not had a reply from the present bunkhouse under consideration Trouble is there are not many bunkhouses which can accommodate WH numbers.

Likewise mountain thyme, I would not be in a rush to do the whole round again, first Corbett ,Yes But in the meantime New Corbetts to be climbed

Thanks Chris Mac, much appreciated, I try and identify the underfoot conditions of walks as much as possible to assist readers to make up their own mind on whether they should attempt walks and also assist in foot ware choice etc.

We were so lucky with the weather getting three out of the four days in pretty good weather for the time of year. What an area and one of the reasons for heading back at next years Spring meet with WH, why don't you come along
