The Inevitable Plans for 2016 Thread

I'm full of coffee on New Year's morning and bored, so thought I'd start this years thread. My objectives depend almost entirely on the success of keyhole knee surgery sometime in March, but assuming that doesn't end in total disaster, I hope to manage the following this year:

- Get down to my last 100 munros
- Camp on either Suilven or Sgurr na Stri. Preferably both
- Do the Mullardochs over a late summer weekend
- Finish the east of the A9 munros
- Have at least one bothy night
- Continue to improve my landscape photography
- Wild camp at Loch nan Eun

What's everyone else hoping to achieve?

I'd mainly like to get out walking as often as possible. I tend to get so busy with work that I don't want to set targets because I'll just disappoint myself.

But things I would like to do this year would be
The AE ridge
A summit camp
attend a WH meet

I wondered when this thread would start.

Summit camp is high on the must do list ( pun intended )

To score at least one point in the photo competition at sometime this year

28 munros. Funny number but it will take me to a nice round total.


This will all depend on the possibility of a clean up operation on my knee or even a complete knee replacement.

My plan for 2016 is to go out for some really nice walks I'd like to do the walk around Loch Affric and reach the summit of Goatfell...but that is about the extent of any kind of "planning" I do

Oh, and I need to take Dottie up Schiehallion so she is level on Muno's with me and Millie...

I don't really feel like I can make plans until my ankle heals up and I am back on my feet... Hopefully it will heal up eventually and I'll have time for a couple of the following

Go to Rum,
Corbets round about Loch Hourn
Scrambles Up Garbh Bheinn
Scrambles up the north face
Go back to Seana Bhraigh from Ullapool/Deargs direction
Scrambles up Fuar Tholl
Go back to the Dolomites for more
Pick a mid summer walk/summit camp which goes to plan, and not get soaked or ill.
Help Dad and Dougie increase their tallies

I was hoping someone would post this

32 Wainwrights lined up for this year, if I've counted right - the 18 remaining southern ones, including Scafell Pike, and 14 western ones - which will take me to 2/3 done, give or take half a hill!

Otherwise I'll try for 10 Munros again, and those last two Pentland Marilyns, and another weekend in the Moffat hills. I'd like to get along the coast from Seaham to Redcar or Saltburn, because I've got my eye on the Cleveland Way for 2017, but getting through Middlesbrough is going to be no fun! The Berwickshire Coast Path would be nice, but I've been saying that for years, a trip to the Cheviots or Howgills or Yorkshire Dales would be nice, Arran would be nice, but I'll have to see what fits in.

My big plan for this year is to cycle from Barra to lewis, catch the ferry over to Ullapool and cycle down to Glasgow. The Mrs is wanting to start a family soon so I'm trying to do as much as I can by myself whilst I still can

Also like a few people have already said, need to get back to doing some summit camps, a winter camp up on Braeriach would be just the ticket

I never really got into the ticking of hill lists though I do sometimes see the attraction

So here's my list in no particular order

1. A 2nd but successful attempt on Ossians cave. see below

2. Revisit Eigg and Rum.

3. Walk to the top of Ben Nevis from my front door in Inverness

4. Cycle from Linn of Dee to Blair Atholl

5. An east west traverse of Suilven over the 3 tops with a lot of exposure, probably with a rope and someone to keep me right.

The next 2 are outwith Scotland

6. Walk the narrows in Utah

7. Stand on the top of Half Dome in California. It's been on the list since I looked across at this view several years ago

8. A wild winter camp on the beach at Sandwood Bay watching the northern lights and hopefully avoiding the ghost of the ancient mariner

I guess I will be lucky to do half of these this year and that will be the less ridiculous ones.
