Meall a’ Ghiuthais

Film of day

There have been signs of good weather in the last few weeks and even at the weekend the sun has come out. I hadn’t been up to Torridon for a while so headed north arriving at the Glas Leitire car park a little before noon.

Things were looking good and blue skies dominated with a white capped Slioch looking rather good across the waters of Loch Maree. The forecast was for cloud to spill in from the west later on but I hoped to beat this and get some views and photographs from the top before the cloud capped the magnificent Torridon Mountains….

The walk through the pinewood was fantastic and felt very spring like in the sun with the dancing flies out and about! The path is probably one of the most engineered (in a good way!) I have seen. Steps cut into the rock and even cross hatching scribed into the rock to prevent slips.

A lot of work had gone in to this!! Numerous cairns mark the way and soon I was reaching the small peak of Leathad Buidhe at around 450m. The views were amazing. The Beinn Eighe Massif dominated the south with wide spread views east and North, a great viewpoint on its own and worth a trip even if you don’t fancy a Corbett into the bargain. A photo stop was had ad I snapped happily away 

The exposed location meant that the breeze had picked up here and after a few snaps, I was soon on the go and ascending the steeper slopes towards Meall a’ Ghuithais. I kept to the wind scoured slopes as I didn’t fancy treading across loaded open slopes! If I thought the views from Leathad Buidhe were good, the summit views only got better with Torridon spread out before me. The summit sits on a perch high above the Glen below and Beinn Eighe, Alligin and Dearg all looked superb with their white coats on.

After more photos and filming I was soon heading down aware that sunset was approaching. I took the western branch of the path down which was a good option as it was slightly less steep but still beautifully made.
A fine outing on a fine winter’s day with grand views of one of Scotland’s finest areas.

Breathtaking pics (but no surprise there!). Wonderful

The vid is pretty amazing too - very professional-looking; and the drone shots really do provide an interesting perspective. Great stuff. Keep doing these, please!
