Today was a walk I had to do or I felt like I would never get out again
following on from the loss of my father only 3 months ago
I suffered another tragic loss and it was with a very heavy heart I took
to Glen Nevis to finish off the remaining 2 Mamores I had left to do
Setting off at 5am the journey north was nice as there was no traffic
to contend with and it was nice and dry though heavy cloud
Arriving in Glen Nevis just after 7am I was delighted to see that the sun was
shining on the tops and the sky was blue
Today as usuall I had Jake my walking partner with me and in addition to him
I now had Brin his brother
He usually stayed at home (been once before) and honestly it was a job getting him
out then as it was today ,he came because he has no company at home now
so it felt it best
I set off from the carpark at 7.20 and headed up the side of the Allt Coire a'Mhusgain
I found it a nice gradual ascent so no need for stops to catch my breath
- The route ahead towards the bealach
- Stob Ban towering up in the left
There was no wind and it was just so nice to be out in the hills
the views really start to open out about 3/4 way up the Allt Coire a'Mhusgain
- Ben Nevis just starting to come into view capped in snow
- The head of Glen Nevis and the Aonachs
- Stob Ban
I was really pleased the way our new company was behaving I kept having
to turn round to make sure he was there
There was just one small stretch of snow to cross before we reached the bealach
here I stopped for a quick picture with Nevis looking fantastic in the background
but I much preferred the foreground
- Jake with his new harness on and Brin his brother
- The climb ahead from the bealach
- Beinn a'Bheithir
- Ben Nevis & CMD
- Sgurr a Mhaim
After a short break and a bite to eat for the three of us
we started up the ascent to the summit and it was just awesome
I last looked over to Stob Ban when doing the Ring of Steall
and thought them that it looked a fantastic mountain and it never let me down
the summit views were just breath taking and really helping to lift my heart a bit as well
- the boys on the summit they stand out nice in the snow and blue skies
- over to Mullach Nan Coirean
- Kinlochleven
- Over towards Glencoe and Bidean nam Bian notice how thick the cloud is here and none above me
The walk over to the next top was nice and pleasant and it never seemed very long
till I was standing next o the very impressive cairn on Mullach Nan Coirean
- Summit of Mullach Nan Coirean
- The Grey Corries
- Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe
- Looking back along the Mamores just sublime
The ascent was nice going till nearing the style over the deer fence
where it got very boggy and one quick slip ensured I was heading home
with a wet a**e
I really enjoyed this walk and shed a number of tears on the way
but in a way it really helped console my thoughts
And a my company sure know how to make me smile ,I never saw 1 walker all day
despite the beautiful weather ,even returning to the carpark there was no cars
also I was expecting a parking ticket as I had no change when I arrived in the morning
now in hindsight I think someone was helping me along everything went just perfect
