Hi everyone, was out with the gang yesterday around the Ironbridge area and will post that report later when I have walk details off Mr. Conroy :D In the meantime thought I would post a nice walk from September 2008 when I was on hols with hubby, this walk is just over 8 miles and starts/finishes in Grasmere.

After parking in Grasmere it was a walk up Easedale Road before turning right to follow the River Rothay towards Ghyll Foot and our first view up Steel Fell.

As we climbed the views as usual get better.

Upward ever upward
We were now seeing Grasmere come into view beyond Helm Crag

We could also see the horseshoe in front of us that we would be taking

Our route after Steel Fell
Eventually we could see what we thought was our first top.

The top ?
As we looked over the main road to Keswick we could see Seat Sandal and Fairfield

We crested the summit and were rewarded with superb views north to Keswick, Skiddaw and Thirlmere

We also had clear views of our return leg along via Gibson Knott to Helm Crag

We now headed to Calf Crag and followed the fence line past a couple of unamed tarns, quite boggy around here.

On our way towards Gibson Knott
It was a good clear day as we looked along to Gibson Knott and Helm Crag

After following a windy trail we were at Gibson Knott

After a final climb we were on Helm Crag below the summit rock climb

We could see from there the slog up Steel Fell

Then it was the picturesque descent off Helm Crag and a walk back down Easedale Road back to Grasmere

Hope this might be an idea for a walk for someone, thanks for looking, stay safe, love Sue :D

Thanks susan - a great report as usual with cracking pictures. A reminder to us all that you don't even need to go above 2000 feet to have a good hillwalk.

Did you climb up the summit crag, the Howitzer or whatever it is called, on Helm Crag? I didn't

Sadly I too failed, very near to the top but not quite, the first time I climbed Helm Crag it it was damp and I didn't even try. Perhaps one day I might try again but I have seen people try and get a bit stuck and embarrassed.

I climbed up the other rock outcrop but not the Howitzer - I don't think that many people do really... that's one of my favourite walks Susan! It's very nice in winter...

Hi Sue
As usual very nice report. You always get such good pics what sort camera do you use? When I do remember my camera the pics are generally rubbish. Hope my pics from this week in Scotland come out good I forgot to bring the usb cable to plug camera into laptop. Not used to being somewhere with internet access. I always like your walks.
Best wishes

Hi Siobhan, my husband has done photography for years and swears by Canon, we both have models of there's, it helps to have around 5MP to play with but megapixels don't make up for a poor lens, thats why most phone cameras are poor, or so he says

Hi Susan,
I thought I'd reply to your kind message on my recent trek on the Greenburn Round and compare the pictures. It seems that I must have stopped and taken pictures at almost exactly the same points as yourself as all the pictures I took on the route (not all were posted) match yours but with Damson in place of yourself. The main difference being the change in season as my views were bright green as yours have a browner hue and you have a far superior camera. Great pictures and report as usual. Regards, Craig

Thanks Craig, you did it a bit quicker than us, we had done Crinkle Crags a couple of days before and the legs were a bit heavy
