Hi everyone, was out with the gang yesterday around the Ironbridge area and will post that report later when I have walk details off Mr. Conroy
In the meantime thought I would post a nice walk from September 2008 when I was on hols with hubby, this walk is just over 8 miles and starts/finishes in Grasmere.
After parking in Grasmere it was a walk up Easedale Road before turning right to follow the River Rothay towards Ghyll Foot and our first view up Steel Fell.
- View to first outcrop
As we climbed the views as usual get better.
- Helm Crag
- Upward ever upward
We were now seeing Grasmere come into view beyond Helm Crag
- Towards Grasmere
We could also see the horseshoe in front of us that we would be taking
- Our route after Steel Fell
Eventually we could see what we thought was our first top.
- The top ?
As we looked over the main road to Keswick we could see Seat Sandal and Fairfield
- Seat Sandal and Fairfield
We crested the summit and were rewarded with superb views north to Keswick, Skiddaw and Thirlmere
- Thirlmere
- Steel Fell summit
We also had clear views of our return leg along via Gibson Knott to Helm Crag
- Return leg
We now headed to Calf Crag and followed the fence line past a couple of unamed tarns, quite boggy around here.
- Towards Calf Crag
- Calf Crag summit
- On our way towards Gibson Knott
It was a good clear day as we looked along to Gibson Knott and Helm Crag
- towards Helm Crag
After following a windy trail we were at Gibson Knott
- Gibson Knott summit
- Easedale Tarn
After a final climb we were on Helm Crag below the summit rock climb
- Helm Crag
We could see from there the slog up Steel Fell
- Steel Fell
Then it was the picturesque descent off Helm Crag and a walk back down Easedale Road back to Grasmere
- Helm Crag descent
Hope this might be an idea for a walk for someone, thanks for looking, stay safe, love Sue
