Had been very busy of late and nowhere near a hill for over a month. Thought that the weather forecast for south of Glasgow looked to be the best - didn’t turn out that way early on anyway as there was light rain and low cloud/clag on arrival in Wanlockhead. Parked in the bit of vacant ground beside the single garage just to the right past the playground. Waited until the rain stopped then set off just before 0800hrs.

Crossed the road then SE up the path towards Whiteside. Had decided to go anti-clockwise in the hope of being high early on for the sunrise - no such luck today.

Still murky with low cloud and little sign of it shifting - back towards Wanlockhead

Image

Stayed in clag and headed south then SW towards East Lowther. On the road for a short section then back on the track. Missed the main track for a short time before rectifying it and arriving at the summit.

No view from the East Mount Lowther viewpoint today

Followed the fence back downhill then rejoined the road for a short section

Some signs of the sun trying to appear on the approach to Lowther Hill

The next section was on the road going NE to Green Lowther

Arrived at the summit trig and had a wander around

Then headed off back into the clag for a short time - following the fence towards Dun Law

The cloud rolled away to leave a rather nicer looking day

Row of icicles

Walked NE to White Law then the steep section - decided just go straight down then straight up - fence came in handy on the odd accasion.

Arrived at the summit cairn

A couple of return options - decided against heading for the B7040 and instead retraced my steps down and back up almost to the top of White Law before skirting round its north side.

Glen Ea’s Hill

Quite a few empty traps around

Grouse butts to the south of Glen Ea’s Hill

Sheltered out of the wind behind pone of the grouse butts to have some lunch.

Down towards the ruin at Lowthers

Couldn’t find a way across the burn at this point so kept to the south and followed it westwards until there ws a suitable spot. Crossed then headed south towards the disused mine.

Then rejoined the main track before going on to the comms station access road. Finally back to the car via the track which goes past the cemetery.

View towards Wanlockhead

That is a cracking picture of Lousie Wood Law! 8) You may have missed a view of the sunrise, but the rest of the day shaped up rather well.

A bit grim looking at the start but then great to get such a complete change. A bit of country with a bit of wildness about it.
