Todays walk had to be a short one as I had to be home early as it was my birthday :D :D :D
so had to be back as we had a meal to go to and then a few beers to celebrate
so I was at the small parking area at 6.20and geared up and away at 6.30
The sky was broken cloud and it was -3 in the glen so it was nice to walk in
Height is gained surprisingly quick once over the style at the deer fence

It was clear to see that there had been a fair bit of snow fallen over past couple of days
and this made this walk even more enjoyable
Meall Ghaordiadh doesn't get great reviews but on a day like today
it really was a pleasure being out

There was very little wind so no need for a jacket at this point of the walk
the ground was also frozen so not one single boggy part to deal with :D

DSC03991.JPG
Nice rolling snowy hills

Low cloud moving in

Nearing the final pull up to the summit some low cloud started to move in
so when we did arrive at the summit there was no panorama view to be seen
after all the fine skies on the ascent this was the only let down :(
Still I got my jacket out and had a seat in the cairn ,with the lads
shared some fruit with them had some fluids a reflected on the events
ive had this year and being my birthday thought of those no longer here
to celebrate it with me

DSC03995.JPG
Summit Posers lol they are getting the hang of it together now

After about 10 mins I about turned and headed back down the path we ascended
the lads were having great fun in the fresh snow
they were like a pair of spring lambs some of the snow was knee deep in places
getting to where the small cairn marks where you leave the track to ascend
I met 3 walkers just starting out
And by the time I got to the carparking area it was like Butlins at peak season
the hill was going to be busy now and some rain was starting to fall as soon as I got in the car
so all in all I had a fab day even if it was short :D :D

Happy birthday!! I hope you weren't too tired to enjoy yourself in the evening

You've definitely persuaded me that this is a mountain best climbed in winter

No I was perfect for the evening
You could look at doing this hill from the other side via the route from Cashlie Power station
up along the Allt Loaghain loop round to Meall Ghaordiadh and back down the corrie beside
the Allt Laoisich , I set out to do the 2 at Loch na Daimh and drive over and do this at the same time
but the weather closed down after the first 2 so missed this on on the day

I was on Ben More (Mull) the same day celebrating my birthday too! Happy Birthday :D
I did Meall Ghaordaidh in winter too - although getting up and down the approach road in the car was a nightmare, so much snow and ice that the car spun and narrowly missed a wall  It's definitely a more enjoyable climb with a winter coat on

Belayed Happy B'day from me, too! :D

This one looks like a good hill for shorter days or for a winter outing - wish it was closer to Inverness  Still on my list of Munros to-do.

Many thanks BP . now if we could turn the country 180 degrees we would be better placed
to do the hills we have left   Same for me they are getting further away
