The best day of the year so far and as I'd already done 10 days solid on my kitchen I was in need of a little time out and some fresh air. An early start saw me at Travellers Rest for about 9ish and after a stroll through the local roads it was straight into the slow climb up Steel Fell.

The sun was out already and by the time we reached the ridge top both myself and Damson were sweating buckets.

Whew !! Its warm
Its a good job we took plenty of fluid as Damson drank about 6lts of water this morning and at only 29cm high thats a lot of water.

The stroll round the ridges through Calf Crag, Gibson Knott and on to Helm Crag was glorious and I returned with a healthy glow from the bright sun and light breeze.

It was a walk of two halves as I only saw 3 runners for the entirety of the first 3 hrs until around Gibson Knott when I ran into the first of the coach loads that were there for the Lion & Lamb including quite a number of small kids that tried smothering Damson.

A thoroughly enjoyable few hours and a walk that I would recommend to all as after the initial climb which is steep in parts, it was view after view for very little effort all finished off with a pint of Hobgoblin from the Travellers.

Nice post, brings back memories when me and hubby did this a couple of years ago, we did post it if you want to compare. It was a bit boggy between Steel Fell and Calf Crag but a lovely day :D

I noticed last week and this week that there's a lot more visitors on the fells - so summer must be on its way....
