Yewbarrow was the only one of the Western Fells I hadn't climbed yet, so this was a long drive for a short walk, but I did get some good views and a nice bit of scrambling.
The ascent up the north end of Yewbarrow starts with a grassy path up the nose of the hill. Then there's a short steep scramble. I didn't take a picture of the scramble as I was concentrating on getting myself up it.

After this a zigzag path leads up to the main ridge and a gradual climb up to the summit.

After visiting the North Top there's the descent of Stirrup Crag. This is quite long and steep, but the way down is obvious, mostly straightforward scrambling, apart from a couple of awkward steps.

From the bottom of the crag, a path contours around the side of the mountain and joins the path leading down to the car park.

A steep little beast is Yewbarrow but a fine hill which adds much to the classic view up Wasdale to Gable etc. Good to look at and from :)

Lovely shots andy, can't blame you for not grabbing scrambling shots, it's a bit of a pain in the butt once you get going

It's a fine hill, this one, with brilliant views 360 degrees. Did it twice in clag, and was very glad finally to get it in good weather - you were lucky first time!

Weren't you tempted to do a bit more after a long drive...???
