A day full of Eastern Promise.

Mount Keen was always on the agenda for this holiday and staying in Breamar made it a relativly short car ride to the start.

We did the WH route from Glen Tanar knowing it's a long walk but that didn't matter as the weather was perfect.
A bike would have been ideal for this but we're not blessed with with such luxuries yet or the means to transport them, well, not yet anyway, after this holiday they're on the shopping list.

The walk along Glen Tanar is lovely, in the trees it was cool and fragrant, out of the trees the views are great and today it was warm with very little wind.

Mount Keen itself is hidden from view on the initial stages of this walk but starts appearing about halfway along and it looks pretty big, there's no mistaking the path, it's a big white line up the mountainside, considering this is the less popular ascent route the path is well used.








Across the third bridge over the Tanar the track becomes rougher with a lot of loose stones and boulders. Above this section the path becomes more stable and progress is easier.

The final part of the ascent gets a bit steeper compared to the route so far and turns bouldery near the summit.
We reached the summit 3.5 hrs after leaving the car and with it being just before midday we decided to have a sit down lunch and appreciate the views.

After lunch we set off back the way we'd come, the sun was still shining so we took our time, it's not often we've been able to appreciate good weather this year so this was a treat.

We had another great day, we really enjoyed Mount Keen. So that's the most easterly Munro done, we've done the furthest north and south on the mainland so, watch out Ladhar Bheinn, we've got you in our sights.

It's a lovely walk. We actually found Glen Tanar more interesting than the Munro itself Late summer/autumn is probably the best time for this route, with purple heather and grass turning yellow... Aah the charms of the East

Hi BP, and it's so much quieter too, we only saw three people all day.
it is a long walk but that's part of the appeal, using a bike would shorten it but I can't help thinking you'd miss things.

Hi mrssanta, yes, we really enjoyed Glen Tanar and the parts of the Cairngorms we were in, they're a nice contrast to the west of Scotland, we're hoping to go again next year.
