After a recent spell of poor health, it was good to be heading back to the hills for my first day out after the excitement of my final Munro last month.

It was a beautiful autumnal day as we drove up through Perth and onto the car park at Braes o'Foss. The car park was quite quiet when we got their - in stark contrast to our return about 2pm!

We got booted up and headed off along the excellent path, leading to the east ridge. I've climbed this hill on many occasions - my first ascent being in 1982, and with the exception of a visit in Easter 1983, I have always enjoyed good weather. It was great to see this trend continue today.

We made good progress along the path and enjoyed a break at the stones set out in a circle that no doubt many people pause at. As we reached the ridge, much of the morning cloud was burning off, although the views to the west were still restricted by mist. There were plenty of stone shelters on the route although we did not need them today.

At the end of the path we started out over the boulderfield. Although the pace was slower, progress was easier than my memories of previous trips. One answer could be that the number of walkers coming along this route over the years have packed the boulders down to such an extent that they don't wobble any more?

The old trig point now seems to have completely disappeared. As there were quite a few people at the summit, we just took a few photos, then headed back down a bit to have our lunch looking west to Glen Lyon.

Here's a health tae the back o' Schiehallion!

After lunch, it was an easy descent over the boulders and back to the path and so to the car.

Another very enjoyable day on a lovely mountain.
