Arc'teryx Atom AR or the LT version.

The Patagonia Nano Air Hoody is incredible by the way.

Any other opinions about this Arc'teryx Atom AR?

I'm a big fan.

It's light, feels nice (decent cuffs, lined pockets), it's warm, looks very smart, wind proof, decent DWR coating, roomy around the shoulders but pretty fitted around the belly. The fit isn't for everyBODY if you're in decent shape it should fit well.

The Atom Light is also a smart bit of kit.

The Haglofs Barrier 3 is a very good bit of kit too and a lot cheaper

Thank you Teaandpies!

I'm not sure if the Atom light would be enough for me... I currently own a Patagonia (Hi loft down sweater), but I'd like to change for a jacket with a hood, and a synthetic jacket.

I go to Scotland in October or in March depending on the year, so it's not winter but it can be quite cold sometimes...

Thanks for the Haglofs recommandation, I didn't notice it was also a 120g/m2 insulation like the Arcteryx. As you said, it's a lot cheaper!! (-120 euros!! I wonder if it's as warm though...)

After this chat I went out and bought a Haglofs Barrier JKT. I got it for £56, pretty chuffed.

Coming to this thread late.
I bought a Montane Ice Guide synthetic jacket the winter before last - very pleased with it in really cold conditions. And it makes a grreat pillow inside a Thermarest Pillow Stuff Sack, Mrssanta :D

Thank you

The price is obviously fantastic, but at 440 grams it's relatively heavy to have as "just" an extra layer stuffed into your pack, but without water resistance it's probably not suitable as a main jacket.

Two other candidates from their range stand-out. Though it's not as warm, they have a 250 gram version so good for a jacket that spends as much time in a sack as on your back. It's just £12 more.

On the other hand, if it's mainly for wearing I'd try to stump-up the extra £47 and up the weight a little to 580 grams and get the version that's warmer, has armpit vents, more durability, and some water resistance.

I think the one you picked looks the nicest, by far.

Thank you

I've used mine quite a bit now and I'm really happy with it. A waterproof shell fits over the top, a fleece fits underneath, it is well designed and not too hot, not too cold.

Thank you so much! This is great because I thought that the Forclaz wasn't available anymore here in France but it's just changed its name, it's the Full Down. I think I'll try it just out of curiosity, if it's not good enough for Scottish outdoors, I'll use it for the city
It may works with an additional synthetic or even down vest if necessary. It could make a versatile set up, cheap and quite light.

Remember to order it two sizes bigger than you usually have, the sizing is different for Decathlon stuff. I usually have a size Large, but in that jacket I take a size XXL.

You're right! I never ordered online Decathlon gear, I always check in a store for the right size as the cut is weird most of the time...

Has anyone tried/own the Berghaus Reversa Jacket?

http://www.tiso.com/tiso-berg-1133959/berghaus-m-reversa-jacket-jet-black-red-tiso-berg-1133959

I tend to layer up to keep warm and when its dry or just a light shower I used my cycling jacket to keep the wind out (its made by Crane & sold by Aldi). This cycle jacket is bomb proof as far as keeping the wind out but it is 0% breathable, so when you stop to take it off its soaking on the inside :(

I'm looking to get something that is more breathable, that will keep me warm. It does not need to be waterproof as when the rain/snow comes I'd stick my waterproof jacket on :D

Sorry, don't know about that jacket but have been happy with the Berghaus Extrem jackets incl their Ignite Hoodie (which I think has primaloft one). It has the advantage of being able to be washed in the washing m/c as it's also synthetic but I think it is discontinued. I think the Reversa jacket is synthetic insulation as opposed to down ? Looks like you can get it for less than the RRP if you shop around. Am a Berghaus fan but think santa is bringing me one of these which looked reasonable albeit now only have larger sizes - cheers :)
