The Inevitable Plans for 2016 Thread

Didn't really make plans last year, except a secret wish to stay this side of the grass. Achieved.
Did 92 Marilyns here and there, mostly a long way there (Wales) , and some Donalds.

1. Go to Scotland in winter
2. See a cloud inversion at dawn from above
3. Summit camp, somewhere. Preferably A'Mhaighdean
4. Sell a framed print of one of my photographs

I'll be stupidly happy if achieve that. The northwest is 10 hours away from here. On the other hand I'm self employed so if I live on beans for a year I can afford it and nobody can stop me

5. Move to Wester Ross

for next year. Probably. I live in hope, to be honest.

If November and early December counts as winter then I managed the first one. Did my first snow-covered Munro and shivered a lot so I'm counting it.
After hurting my back about a week after writing that, carrying heavy camping loads for long distances has become even less likely, hence the second and third ones might have to wait.
I did sell several prints and canvasses, though if I want to retire on it I'm going have to sell that many every day
As for the fifth one, well I can still dream

Right now just managing to get out to a hill would be a good plan MANAGED THAT
No fixed plans STILL DON'T
Hope to fit in more camping trips MANAGED THAT
...and maybe a bothy DIDN'T MANAGE THAT
Need to get the planning cap on STILL WORK IN PROGRESS

What I managed this year

To enjoy the hills in all four seasons, improve my tolerance of exposure and increase the distance/ascent we can manage in a day. It would be nice to reach 100 Munro's (if I were counting).
If the weather is kind a trip to Skye, more walking in Kintail, The Saddle , CMD Arete and the Ring of Steall and Ben Alder.

Certainly enjoyed the hills in all four seasons and far more tolerant of exposure although a way to go here and made the 100 Munros. Several good trips to Skye and Kintail, But didn't manage any of the specifics except the Saddle, so they will have to be on the list for next year.

Completed the Donalds/New Donalds at Eastertime
Have reached 167 Grahams, so better than expected
A dismal 16 Munros however.
Didn't manage the Cuillin ridge traverse due to my tennis elbow and sick kid's back problems.
Did a few wild camps but still fewer than I'd like

Managed the Welsh Furths, got past 1000 Simms and my 600th Marilyn, so quite happy overall.

I exceeded my plans

Climbed my last 89 Munros and compleated on Mull in September - still over the moon about it.

Made a start on the Corbetts and Grahams but in no particular hurry to finish them.

Managed to survive my first wild camps solo - fantastic experiences.

Not part of my original plans but did a Summer Mountain Leader course at Glenmore.....giving me plenty of work to do next year to get to assessment standard.

Nothing overly ambitious, having failed miserably in the bulk of my 2015 targets….

1) Make halfway (should be doable!)
2) Take my number of solo hills over the 100 mark
3) Get up at least another 2-3 Munros with my two wee boys
4) Suilven
5) Slioch
6) Ben Klibreck
7) Conival-BM Assynt
Nevis via the CMD arête

- If I get these half dozen or so within c.30 hills this year I’ll be delighted.

But overall, just to have some more fab days out.

Managed 1,2,3 and 8.

But stalled badly overall. Only managed 13 ticks this year, when my annual average is c30 or so. Have lost my mojo quite severely this year for personal and work reasons. Hoping I can unearth it again in 2017.

As always I just want to be able to get out more often than not and enjoy good days on the hills - Achieved that

That said, I'm a baker's dozen from compleating the Munros, so would like to achieve that sometime during 2016 - Failed that

I'd also be keen on a double compleation by ticking off the remaining 27 Donalds if I can Adding all the Donald tops would also be nice, but isn't quite so high on my list of walking priorities. - Failed that too

Then just keep the Corbett and Graham totals ticking along nicely - Poor return on the Corbetts, but quite a few Grahams ticked

May not have hit all my targets.....but I did discover the joy of sub 2000

The plan is compleat in the summer with only 38 left, sounds easy but there are going to be some monster/challenging days. No compleation date set yet, depends on the weather playing ball and really starting to improve. Let's hope that yellow thing in the sky makes many long awaited appearances - Success

Ben More on Mull is the finale, date will be posted - Success

Plans are well under way, trip to Knoydart and Skye almost sorted, Mullardoch will also be a challenging outing will be posting details. The major problem is going to be Fisherfield but am sure I can come up with a cunning plan as I don't do camping (mainly because I don't have a tent) - Success

Hopefully will be at all the WH meets and hook up with anyone who doesn't mind me tagging along

Been a fabulous year, the highlight was the 14.5hr marathon in Fisherfield Loved every minute of our trip to Skye, probably the biggest surprise was how much I fell in love with Knoydart - just loved everything about it, island mentality on the UK mainland

1. Get to at least half way with Munros.
2. Stop ignoring hills closer to Glasgow because they are not Munros.
3. Do some more camping to save the 3hr drives each way.
4. Do a wild camp
5. Break my Skye virginity.

Suppose all the above makes the assumption that it will stop raining at some point......

Failed on all apart from number 2...., on a more positive note I did buy a new house and spend every penny and spare minute decorating it.

Always next year, so I'm keeping these 5 aspirations and instead of get to half way with Munros I'm upping it to 200.

Take Coldwetandhungry to Torridon, where she has never been.

Didn't do that, but had a lot of fun doing other things. CWH is "off" going places with the oldies.

Mmmm...must have inhaled something when suggested reaching 75 munros, don't think I was even at 50 at the time?! Did many more hills in other categories in 2015 and had memorable days on An Teallach (Munros & Tops); the Skye Cuillin (seven of them done so far); as well as some great days out on Corbetts, Grahams, Donalds and Sub-2K's.

Didn't make it to Assynt this year due to other commitments but, Ardnamurchan was better than ever.

Shall keep chipping away. WHW is still a possibility for 2016, full Cuillin traverse is on the cards (despite my sister nicking the weekend for her wedding), plus a winter trip to Skye & Kintail and another Summer assault on Knoydart.

A very good year, despite other commitments.
No WHW and no Cuillin traverse but did manage 4 repeats and two new ones in Skye, though forced to retreat from the Pinn in foul weather. Also a new winter route on Marsco and an amazing wintry epic on the 5 Sisters of Kintail.
Plenty of sub-2k's with the family and have added to the munro and Corbett count but not so much to the Graham or Donald count.
Spent my 50th birthday on Chrualiste with the dog; spent my first night in a bothy recently; a brilliant wild weekend in Knoydart in June; 2nd ascent on Nevis, 20 years after the first, this time via CMD. Happy with my lot!

The idea is to get to 200 Munros in 2016.

This was the main target - managed it and half way point on Corbetts as well
I was fighting against the wind this year, knee injury and cr**ppy summer, still statistics are not drastically bad. 24 Ms, 16 Cs an 18 Gs.

From my list of hopes...
Did Beinn Dearg four
Went to 2 to WH meets
Finished the Cairngorms
Cycled up to Geldie Munros (and almost gave up on climbing hills )
Visited the lovely Pitmedden Gardens in full bloom

Bad summer meant we didn't get around to wild camping (though Lurg Mhor & Cheescake camp was planned) and we had to retreat from Foinaven due to gusty wind. Also still have 2 Torridon Corbetts left to do. Hopefully 2017 wil be better weather-wise and we can tackle some of the most remote Munros.
