Plans for 2017

I'll do this one while I'm at it, although I haven't made any plans yet!

I'll start the ball rolling

First priority complete the Donalds, only 11 left that will involve at least 4 trips back to Dumfries & Galloway.

After that I don't have any plans or ambitions, will probably be back on the Munro trail with the occasional Corbett thrown in

I'd like to do more Munros than in 2016 to start with. Specifically, would like to do some or all of the fannaichs in summer. Would also like to stay at either Alltbeithe or Loch Ossian Youth Hostel as part of a hill trip. I would definitely like to use my crampons as although I have walked in the snow several times, I've not had to use them yet. Other than that I don't really mind. I would like to climb some higher mountains (highest in Scotland so far is Ben Lawers). Would definitely like to venture into the Cairngorms with the help of my mountain bike. Finally, enjoy myself in the hills, take more photos and write more walk reports!

Early plans of Arrochar, Arran, and Glen Coe.

Have much accumulated holiday which vanishes around April, so want to get a longer walk (wildcamping) undertaken.

Setting myself a target of 40 munros , which will hopefully include
1. Forcan ridge
2. Aonach Eagach
3. South Glenshiel ridge- which I will be doing for the charity I like to support
4. A couple of the biggies in the cairngorms

Also hope my lad comes out a bit more. He wants to go up The Ben- he doesn't know yet that I'll be taking him over CMD if the weathers good.

(Barring further injury complications)

- Climb 72 munros next year to get to the last 50, although i'd be delighted with 200.
- Mullardochs over 3 days with a tent/bivvy
- Finish the munros east of the A9
- Do the Aonach Eagach again on a better day
- A summit camp

Surely to goodness in 2017 I can manage the final 4 Munros, as well as the handful of Donalds, New Donalds and Donald tops

Beyond that, just enjoy the hills and see how many Corbetts, Grahams and sub 2000s I can visit

Some longer camping trips incl summit camps
See an otter
Try to get to the far north
Try to get to an island

I pinched the first one from someone else a few years ago: stay this side of the grass.

I know I will never finish the Marilyns because of the St. Kilda sea stacks, but having done 1515/1557, I think I am within spitting distance of doing the rest, which would be nice. Some are hideously complicated to get at, and at least one is now beyond me unless we drag in a tent, so not a foregone conclusion.

For the first time, I'm not setting a target number of Munros to get to. It will be whatever we manage in the next 12 months. Possibly more hills in the Southern Highlands.

The wee list of hopes contains:

A Munro or two on Skye
Lurg Mhor & Cheesecake
CMD Arete
Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan
some bike & hike combos
some overnighters
stay fit, avoid injuries and knee bashing

4. Do not be put off that they are getting further and further away from home, ( refer to section 2. for solution.....)
5. Continue to believe that adverse weather is not bad weather
6. Know when 5. is wrong and I have to turn back
7. Enjoy this great country, even though it took me so long to appreciate what we have!

If I can count correctly, I've got 35 Wainwrights on my list for the year - 28 Western and 7 Northwestern (and then I'll be into my second last book, which is a bit of an odd feeling). Plus a few odd Outlying ones!

I also really want to have a trip to somewhere else in England - the Howgills or Yorkshire Dales or even the Peak District.

I'm not sure about setting a number on Munros, because I never seem to climb any anyway, but I don't want to do none. Maybe I'll set the target at 5!

Hopefully at least 10 Donalds - a cluster of 9 round Moffat, and whatever else takes my fancy.

I suppose I might as well list these last two Pentland Marilyns!

I'd like to get to a part of Scotland where I've never been before - hopefully the Cairngorms, but maybe Skye as well (where I have been but not to the hills) since I'm thinking of going to a summer school course at Sabhal Mor Ostaig.

I'm planning to walk the Cleveland Way in April - maybe I'll finally get round to the Berwickshire Coast Path as well, or start heading north on the Fife Coast Path.

I REALLY want to walk the Lairig Ghru. Had plans all set for last July, I was there and my brother was about to join me, then there were all those thunderstorms and I didn't want to do it in bad weather….. so if I can do that in 2017 I'll be happy. Planning to leave the Northern Isles as well, so general hill climbing will be far easier!
