Saturday's forecast was just as good, so we attempted to drive up to the Walna Scar car park, but we were thwarted by Black Ice and forced to reverse gingerly back to find a suitable parking place on the road. We were soon on the Walna Scar road

the lower tops of Dow Crag beckoning

The snow and morning shadows made the road look rather spectacular

We were back in the snow before leaving the road

and climbed upwards towards Brown Pike

Blind Tarn caught the eye

Looking up the ridge

and onwards over Goat's Hawse, where the wind was catching the snow

After a minor navigational error we found ourselves north of Brim Fell looking down at Levers Water

and along the ridge towards the Old Man

The clouds over Dow Crag were spectacular:

and we were soon at the highest point in old Lancashire, looking back towards the Scafells

and down to Coniston Water

Posing by the summit cairn

Somewhat reluctantly we followed the hordes down the tourist path

and we were soon at Low Water

The views east drew us on

A fine two days, so we were not overly disappointed that Sunday was a washout...

Thanks for the comments. The Coniston fells are very familiar ground - our grandparents used to live just down the hill at Park Gate, but I had never done the contouring path from Goats Hause towards Swirl How before, and the light changes every time, so there is always something new to find...

Lovely shots of another cracker BH, love the shot of the road twisting away into the distance .....no mention of a pub finish though, so almost perfect

The pub at the finish was the same as the previous day - the Black Bull...

Nice to look at those pics of sunshine and snow on such a miserable day as today. I particularly like the one of Blind Tarn with Morecambe Bay shining in the distance; great caption for it too: "Blind Tarn caught the eye"

Great choice of walk for such a day. Let's hope we get a few more days like that in what's left of the Winter!
