Most beautiful peaks of Scotlands - I need your help

Most beautiful peaks of Scotlands - I need your help

Postby czubaka » Sun Feb 05, 2017 12:03 pm

Hello friends!

My name is Lukasz Czubak. I’m a mountain and outdoor blogger, journalist and copywriter from Poland. Two years ago I walked Skye Trail, and since that time I have been in love with Scotland, Scottish culture and landscape! This year I’m going to visit the Highlands at the beginning of May. My plan is to cycle from Glasgow to Cape Wrath and then back south through Inverness and hike 5-10 MOST BEAUTIFUL PEAKS OF SCOTLAND.

And my question is: what are - in your opinion - the most beautiful peaks of Scotland? Please name 5.

I’ve got my favourite one, but I need the opinion of people who know Scottish mountains and are experts on that subject matter.

Thank you very much for your help! Greetings - Luke

PS. Do not include Ben Nevis and Cuillin - I’ve been there ;).

The Skye ridge might be a little difficult logistically, as you have to go across from Skye, but you can get a very good view of it, weather permitting from Blaven, or from Sgurr na Stri which is a small, perfectly formed hill from where you can see them all.

Quick list of 10 off top of my head, which I'll almost certainly want to revise immediately.

1. Beinn Alligin (Torridon)
2. Slioch (Letterewe)
3. Ladhar Bheinn (Knoydart)
4. Suilven (Assynt)
5. Cir Mhor (Arran)
6. Beinn Dearg Mhor (Fisherfield)
7. The Saddle (Glen Shiel)
8. Garbh Bheinn (Ardgour)
9. Ben Lui (Tyndrum)
10. Stob Dearg (Buachaille Etive Mor)

But then I've missed out Ben Starav, The Five Sisters of Kintail, Beinn Dorain, Schiehallion and countless others. Impossible!

Anything in Assynt, Fisherfield forest, Torridon, Coulin forest etc etc. Plenty there to keep you busy, especially; Suilven, Stac Polaidh, An Teallach, Liathach, Beinn Alligin, Beinn Liath Mhor....

Thank you for all suggestions! There are some new peaks for me, which are very beautiful - especially Cir Mhor, Beinn Alligin and Ladhar Bheinn.

For that moment my list looks like that - going from the south:
- Ben Lui
- Buachaile Etive Mor
- Aonach Eagach
- Liathach
- Slioch
- An Teallach
- Stac Pollaidh
- Suilven
- Ben Stack
- Schiehalion

I was thinking about Cairngorms but probably I will have enough time ;(
It's hard to choose!

Hard one, but here are some that are at the top of my list, and seem to be high up most other folks' lists also (I don't include the Cuillin Ridge (the best) because you've been there.).

Part of the attraction of any mountain is the hill itself, and another part is the view you get from it: Sgurr na Stri has in many people's opinion the best views in Scotland; I love Beinn Eighe because of the views it affords of Liathach. And yet another part is when it forms part of a ridge with spectacular views...

Liathach
Beinn Eighe
Ben Starav
Stob Dearg (via Curved Ridge)
The Cobbler
Bidean nam Bian
Ben Cruachan

And there are many many others I haven't yet been up, but whose portraits make them look amazing - eg
An Teallach
Beinn Dearg Mor
Suilven....

Hope you have a really excellent time

It is a bit tricky, trying to choose between such hills, but we have to have Buchaille Etive Mhor in winter clothing...
