It depends on how wild you like your wilderness. And how unpopulated/desolate you like your islands. And the weather. Skye would be a lot wilder than Arran, but exposed to worse weather. September often has nice conditions though, with crisp autumnal air doing away with midgies, the foliage turning to autumn colours and the crowds disappearing back to the cities. The two islands have very different atmospheres, Arran being quite Southern, much like Kintyre and Ayrshire, while Skye is very much of the North; Hebridean and North West Highlands.
- Dawn over Ben Tianavaig, Trotternish, North Skye.
- Glen Sligachan, Skye.
- Glen Sannox, Arran.
- Goatfell summit, Arran.
