Hills which don't make the sacred 'lists'- an appreciation

Traprain Law is a Hump and a Tump and I'm sad to say we have never climbed it, as when we go over there we always end up at daughter's in Haddington instead. It looks a great wee hill, and has all that pre-history with the hoard, now in Chambers St. museum (I think). Next time we WILL climb it.

I climbed it as a detour from the old John Muir Way - it's a nice wee hill, and I like the way it sticks up in views from all over the Lothians, along with Berwick Law and the Bass Rock.

I've been rock climbing on the crags there dozens of times, but never visited the top

My two suggestions would be Clach Bun Rudhtair (NJ140039) on Ben Avon's north ridge, (a spectacular 924m rocky pinnacle which is 'missing' from the list Munro Tops) and the incredibly pointy 905m An Sgurr/Creag an Duine (NH297880) on the opposite side of Loch Luchd from Seana Bhraigh, which is not high enough to be a Munro Top and presumably does not have enough of a drop to be a Corbett, but can be seen for miles, particularly from Cona Mheall. Wouldn't the latter be a Corbett top of a Munro? (A Cornro top perhaps...). There must be plenty of them kicking around!

I always feel a tinge of sadness for those peaks that no one could be bothered to name.

I love wee West Lomond. It's got really good views at the top and it's a decent walk but nothing you can't do in a few hours. I really like its shape and I drive past it every day on my way to work so I feel it's one of 'my' hills. Not big and not spectacular, but I'll always enjoy a wander up and down it.

Earlier this year I wrote a post on Meall an t-Slamain just across the water from Fort William. For its height the 360 degree views are out of this world. It is listed but largely ignored.
