Right, decided to do this walk today 27/05/2017 as it's close to home - 30 mile drive from Dundee - and it seemed a more interesting way to do Glas Maol and Creag Leacach than the usual route from Glen Shee, a place I've grown to dislike due to the extensive scarring on most of the hills around the ski centre. But I suppose they're as entitled to access the hills as we are.
Firstly this is a long walk at the best of times but I really wasn't ready for the heat that I experienced all the way bar about 30 minutes near the end when a cooling breeze came up and brought some light rain with it - never thought I'd welcome rain.
It's a good walk with some excellent views that you'd only get from this walk - however, it's brutal in places and particularly near the end when you pull up Black Hill then Monamenach. In fact no, Black Hill is brutal, Monamenach is hellish. My calves were burning when I got to the top, then the descent's nearly as bad. Still I did enjoy it and as I'm working on my fitness just now it'll do me no harm.
The reason I took so long on the walk is that one of my dogs went missing near the summit of Monega Hill and I spent a good hour and a half looking for him - unfortunately I didn't find him and spent the rest of the walk looking back for signs of him following as well as hoping he'd made his way back to the car. For that reason I don't have many pictures and the report is short.
Me and Rudy on Glas Maol
Me on Creag Leacach - Rudy was gubbed by this point and wouldn't play
Cairnwell and Carn Aosda from Creag Leacach (boooo)
