I was finally in Fort William again after a year of absence. At first I wanted to climb the four Munros of the Ring of Steall. The weather and my experience in Loch Cluanie had made me thoughtful. After thinking about my decision, I decided to change my plans. I only climbed the Munro Sgurr a' Mhaim. I know that I could have done more. However, after climbing this pearl from the Mamores I came across two highlights: The Devil's Ridge, were I found the most beautiful place to sit. My other highlight was the swimming in Lochan Coire nam Miseach at 760 metres. I was so happy and felt so much joy that I didn't want go down to Glen Nevis.

Wonderfully succinct report: very short on words but communicating masses .

The lochan looks wonderful (I had a similar reaction to Loch Etchachan, but being under a bit of time pressure, I didn't stop to enjoy a swim ).

Once I retire - not long now - I planning to move towards this kind of more contemplative enjoyment of the hills...

Thank you Alteknacker! I could have climbed many mountains if I had wished to. It doesn’t depend on my condition. I thought it would be nice to combine walking with swimming in lochs in the Highlands. It has been an old dream for a long time, now I finally did it. In Holland I swim outside throughout the entire year, even in winter. The temperature of the water can’t be much lower in the lochs.

I always enjoy your stories on the WH-site. I found your ‘’Mamores barbeque’’ especially interesting. Climbing the last 7 Munros of the Mamores is still on my bucket list.

Hi Dogplodder! It was definitely bliss. I did miss my loyal dachshund who always guides me when I swim outside. You will understand me, as a “doglover”. It is a pity I can’t bring him to the mountains. It is quite a long trip with the ferry and he wouldn’t enjoy the alternative, a flight.

Hi Sunset Tripper! Thank you for the response. It was a long but pleasant trip from Fort William to the Mamores and back. I often make walks like this when I am in the Highlands and I never get bored. I enjoy the colours, surroundings, plants and the birds. There are always beautiful things that catch my interest in Scotland. You can find a few more pictures of my day in the Mamores in the attachment.
