This was a great route with spectacular views.

I set off in the morning from the layby just south of Kilmarie on the road to Elgol. The track starts directly opposite the layby.

Pretty simple following the track over to Camasunary. When you reach the top of Am Mam, you get a hint of the views you'll see later on:

Then I headed across the bay and then the river, which was fairly easy to cross as it hadn't really rained for weeks.

From here I followed the river north on the west bank before heading up beside a stream in the col between Sgurr na Stri and Sgurr Hain on a patchy path. It was quite wet in places underfoot here and must get very boggy when it's been raining.

Bla Bheinn from a little way up the hill following the stream:

On reaching the ridge the views started improving exponentially.

As I passed a couple of pools complete with small newts.

It was a fairly easy scramble along the ridge to the summit. Not really much of a path but I just kept heading towards what looked like the highest bit!

Some views from the top...

Sgurr a Ghreadaidh & Sgurr a Mhadaidh

And now the money shot...

From the top I took a pretty similar route back to the way I came up, before driving down to Elgol and waiting for the sun to set...

Some really great pics there with beautiful colours and a great sunset :D

Where you say it was easy scrambling along the ridge to the summit, what I always need to know is more whether it was exposed scrambling?

And you've even managed to make Blaven look friendly in your pic -I usually think it looks monstrous!

Some very fine and interesting images in your report.....brings back, on recall, our first visit to Skye when we spent a week at Coruisk. Sgurr na Stri was visited from Coruisk.....it is small alongside the bigger peaks but as a lookout it is second to none! On our side of the country we have had grey skies, some heavy showers and half a gale all week....was your visit earlier that your 07/07 date?

Not exposed at all, and could probably just be walking if you were more careful with route choice and didn't just straight line it to the top.

Gaffr, it was on Sat 19th June. Nice and sunny but a fairly strong wind most of the day, especially at the top.

Great thanks - I'm not really a scrambling coward... only an exposed scrambling coward :D

Gaffr - what was the route up it from Coruisk like out of interest?

Excellent stuff - though I suspect you are a professional photographer, with those shots.

Will just add my admiration in quickly - some of the best Cuillin photos I have seen on this site. :D In the face of plenty of stiff competition, too...

Can't believe I still haven't climbed this hill though :?

Afraid not, still waiting for the call from National Geographic! Currently finishing off a PhD in high frequency receivers.
