A perfect one to introduce the children too.
Got the early morning boat over from Ardrossan, had tentatively planned to walk from the ferry, but for £2 for all of us, jumped on the awaiting bus and asked the driver to drop us off at the start (which he gratefully did).
Was quiet at this time (most walkers came in on the next ferry) which we found perfect for our slower pace.
The bottom was bit fly infested which we managed to resolve by sticking nets over our heads - yup, we were the dippy looking ones. Got to the bridge / waterfall bit and took a rest - actually, make that took a rest every ten minutes with youngest (age 12).
Hubby started mumping about half way up about not being fit enough to do this - he was, just needed the encouragement.
The top part looks daunting until you're actually on it, but being a National Trust path is really accessible, felt comfy the whole time.
Views from the top are spectacular and there's lots of shelter from any wind. On a good day apparently you can see Ireland ... clearly wasn't a good day for us as we could barely see Ardrossan (we could, but only just). We got the gist of it though!
Descent lovely - the pub at the bottom of the hill was very accommodating about allowing loo useage. Thoroughly recommend walking back into town along the beach (access by the bus stop opposite) as it stretches and relaxes out any muscles - path is very well shown and it takes about 20 - 30 minutes, and has the treat of going past an ice-cream shop!!
