We decided to aim for Ben Nevis for our 30th Munro. Checked the weather forecast and although Fort William looked good, the forecast for Ben Nevis included fog at 900m and gusts of wind, maybe 30-35 mph. We were a bit wary but got prepared and took extra layers. Early start and were lucky to get parked at Glen Nevis Visitor Centre.
It was hot and we were actually looking forward to it getting cooler higher up - but apart from when we stopped to eat I had one layer on all day. A lot of sweaty folk walking slowly up the hill. I heard someone say it was 20 degrees when we were on our way back down.
For the first time ever we did not check our route notes (always courtesy of Walk Highlands), just followed the path and the people. Had expected it to be busy but it was okay and had a few laughs with other walkers.
Due to our early start we stopped quite early on to eat and had another lunch stop just before the top. The people who were there before us got clear views. We had white cloud rolling over which added to the atmosphere, we walked round the top looking in all directions and stayed on the top for quite a while. There was no wind and no extra layers needed.
So, very different to our other Munro's. Partly due to the number of people and partly due to the weather. We just puffed our way up the hill. Drove back through Glencoe to Argyll. Perfect end to the surprising day on Ben Nevis
