Hills In Lanzarote

Hills In Lanzarote

Postby pollyh33 » Sat Dec 30, 2017 7:34 pm

Hi Folks

I'm heading to Lanzarote soonish and I was hoping to get some hills done while I'm there.

Any useful information on terrain and accessibility would be gratefully received.

Cheers X

I have only been to Tenerife, one of the islands you will be able to see in the distance. It was rocky and deserty with spikey plants. So stout boots, a wide-brimmed sun hat and lots of water are all necessary. Don't forget the sunbloc.

You may need to drink rum out of coconut shells

Deserty mountains; sheer hell.

The Sunflower Guides are written for people who go to places where most people want to lie on the beach, but some people don't. We have always found them invaluable in e.g. Madiera, Majorca,Cyprus. There is one on The Algarve. They do variously graded walks and some car trips.

The hills there are not nearly as high as those on the other Canary Islands such as Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

I done two small volcano cones when I was there a few years ago, the terrain is dry and dusty and more rocky as you gain height.

I done this trip report over on ScottishHills, that'll give you an idea:

If you're hiring a car get one where you take it back with a full tank, we drove all week and never even got it half empty

If doing Teide apply for a permit now although you may be to late? You could always get the last cable cable car up and wait for the guard to go down, nip up to the summit and you'd have to walk down though.

Masca gorge is highly recommended as well 8)

Forget that! Wrong Island
