How did you get on in 2017?

I planned to get to 200 Munros and have good weather every time. We managed the 200 but the weather was pants!

A fantastic year of exploring lots of new places!
Who knew that the Moffat hills would be so good? and the Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia, Yorkshire Dales, and even the Pennines (though eye wateringly boggy....)

My main goals were to climb Elbrus in the Caucasus in June and do my Summer Mountain Leader Assessment in October - both achieved - the latter very stressful, but the journey towards it was fantastic.
:)

Lots and lots of new hills/ mountains climbed in the process - at least 49 new Hewitts, 43 Corbetts, 33 Grahams/ Donalds, 3 Munro tops, and lots of repeats.

Plus loads of wild camps - including a few in winter and a summit camp, and my first 3 bothy nights

Bring on 2018!

My plans in the other thread had been:

- Climb 72 munros next year to get to the last 50, although i'd be delighted with 200.
- Mullardochs over 3 days with a tent/bivvy
- Finish the munros east of the A9
- Do the Aonach Eagach again on a better day
- A summit camp

Got to 206 which was a decent tally considering summer was largely pish weather-wise
Couldn't get decent enough forecast for the Mullardochs on a free weekend
Only got Beinn Mheadhoin left east of the A9
Repeated the AE on a glorious day in September on my own
Summit camped on Sgurr na Stri, by a mile my finest hill experience so far.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with my year, Sgurr na Stri was definitely the highlight.

My only real targets are to finish the Grahams (50 to go) and the Irish and English Furths, like to get them done by end of August After that - life gets easier - walk my first distance route, the Cape Wrath Trail - hopefully early May

Have to get some Munros in as well and make a bit more of a contribution to my second round than the measly 16 I managed this year.

Allison's wanting to do some Munro Tops now, so I suspect they'll need squeezed in alongside Marilyns and Simms :roll:

Not a bad year hillwise - got the Grahams and Furths finished in May which was the prime objective.
Didn't get the Cape Wrath Trail done for several reasons - not sure if I'll get round to this now having done all the Marilyns in the Cape Wrath peninsula now...
Managed 67 Munros this year, bit better showing than last
Marilyns -(not just sub2Ks) 225 and Simms - 362 which I'm happy enough with
Got through quite a few of Allison's Munro Tops too - she's only got 18 left now :lol:

My leanest year in the hills since 2009. Must do better in 2018! :shock:

We have been busy with other projects and not been in hills nearly as much as I would have liked :( and any targets have gone out the window :lol: but still have enjoyed many good routes and great trips and still have plenty to look forward to in 2018.

Only managed 1 Munro, but got quite a few Marilyns bagged (or revisited to be able to tick them off properly with a date) - varying in awesomeness from Dun Caan on Raasay to Lewes golf course. Highlight was probably watching a Sea Eagle from above on Dun Caan summit.

I spent 2017 chasing the places with the best weather, and hardly got rained on at all. Congratulations to the Met Office for the quality of their forecasts. Finished the Corbetts with a huge crowd of friends in November. Bagged 253 Marilyns, including 4 in St Kilda. Best hill walking year yet, I'd say.

I wanted 50 munros with at least one of Aonach Eagach, Liathach or An Tealach.

In the end I got 60 munros and Liathach so pretty happy.

This year I want another 50 munros including Aonach Eagach and at least something on Skye. We shall see!

The best year in a decade stats-wise. Of course, we had a list of hills planned, ended up doing mountains not on the list...

The plan was Lurg Mhor & Cheesecake, CMD Arete and Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan, we did Foinaven, Streap and 3 trips into the Fisherfields instead :lol: :lol: Not much winter walking due to snowless winter 2016/17, hopefully the coming one will be better!

Walked 1128km, climbed 55244m. 83 summits, including 24 Munros, 26 Corbetts, 27 Grahams and 6 subs. Very happy with that.

We're not in a hurry but would love to compleat the M's at some point... in 3 or 4 years time :wink: At the moment, 65 Munros left, but most of them awkwardly placed in the south of Scotland (3 hours drive each way from home), means many long journeys up and down the A9 :roll:

I didn't make any plans. If you aim for nothing you'll achieve it every time! :lol:

I didn't do an awful lot of munros in 2017, about 15 or so I think. But those included one on Skye and the Aonach Eagach ridge as well as passing the halfway point with the munros so it wasn't all bad.

I managed a trip to Kashmir for a week's hiking in the Himalayas and that was absolutely tremendous. Had my first trip to the Lake District for a traverse of Striding Edge on a glorious sunny day and returned for the 15k Helvellyn trail running challenge later in the year. Another highlight was a three day voyage through the Cairngorms from Blair Atholl to Aviemore. I went to my first Walkhighlands weekend meet up at Tongue and enjoyed it so much that I also went to the following one in the Great Glen. And finished the year with a couple of great winter days out in Glencoe and a Hogmanay bothy stay in the Lairig Leacach.

So I'd like to think I spent 2017 adding a bit more variety to my hillwalking rather than the pursuit of munros which had been my main motivator previously.

Well, not many trips to the Scottish Highlands for walking, but a memorable year nonetheless.

Feb/March saw our annual winter week, and what a cracker it was!

First a few days in Fisherfield; https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=70502

This was followed by two superb days when staying at Sail Mhor Croft

Easter saw the latest of our "Pirate" adventures, with kids, by canoe and foot, a proper maritime adventure on Lochs Morar and Nevis with some wild weather too;

In the late Spring I decamped to France for a couple of weeks to borrow a friend's house in Cajarc. This led to some excellent biking and paddling, but also a few stunning walks;

Later in the summer I was lucky that much planning finally came to pass and we headed on a canoe expedition to Scandinavia, using lakes and rivers to cross from Rogen in Sweden to Roros in Norway, with much portaging of canoes and gear;

https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=75050

Since then its been down to earth a bit, but I've still managed a few "away trips" as well as some lovely time spent exploring my local area of Surrey a bit more. I've also paddled on the Wye and in Northern Ireland, as well as maintaining my record of getting under canvas at least once a month!

The last was a couple of days in the Lake District over New Year, I may write a report later on.

Not as good a year as hoped. Only a dozen or so hill days. Partly life just got in the way, but also had a lot of trouble with plantar fasciitis.
