Hell's Glen duo

[rockhopper]

Parked just off the B839 beside a gate at NN168074. Got ready and set off for Stob an Eas.

Up the track, through the trees. Very boggy in places until a fire break opening at NN182067.



Left the track and headed north beside a burn.



Snow line at about 500m.



Crossed the burn and headed straight up. Got to a steeper area covered by a smooth snow slab. A bit unhappy but tried a little further until a crack appeared round the periphery so withdrew back a short way and tried eastwards instead.



The direct route up didn’t look possible due to deep, steep snow so headed further round to the east where the slopes were more scoured and could then head north to the summit.









Weather wasn’t as nice as forecast – rather chilly at the top. Didn’t hang around for long before setting off back down. This time headed NW then down to the south rather than try the ascent route.





Back down at the start, crossed the B839 and set off SW up the track towards Cruach nam Mult.





Was looking for a fire break but there had been a lot of tree felling – walked past it initially until realising that the track ahead was dipping away the wrong way. Re traced a few steps then set off up the side of the trees by a burn before getting to more open hillside and continuing eastwards. Not good ground conditions for walking so decided that a more direct route down for the descent may be better.



Met another walker on his way down (since recognised via FB). Got to the summit then headed to another top to the SE just in case it was a little higher (but don’t think it was).













Met another walker on the way back to the main summit – turned out that he had been behind me on Stob an Eas. Took a more direct route down through the tree felled hillside trying to stick to furrows in the ground – not that easy to walk on but better than the ascent by the burn.

A nice duo rockhopper I recall they were both a bit boggy when I ventured up them (did them as two separate walks), but enjoyed them all the same. Looks nice with a bit of snow on them too

Nice. Timely as well. I have been eyeing these two up for a spring raid in the coming months!
