Service software updates and changes

Service software updates and changes

Postby Paul Webster » Wed Apr 04, 2018 9:40 am

We've upgraded alot of the software that Walkhighlands runs on this morning. This should make things faster, and also help make the forum more future proof.

One change you are more likely to notice is that you can now use native emojis from your machine (e.g. on phone, tablet etc.) rather than just the built in smilies - previously this caused error messages.

If anyone has any issues then please note down as much as possible of what caused it and send us a message.

Many thanks!

🍻

Update - I've had to reverse alot of the changes temporarily - more unexpected work to do on them. Will launch all again in the next week. That said, the emojis should be working.

I'm not sure if this is something you did, but I'm uploading photos, and if I do the 'place inline' for one batch, and then upload more, the first batch stop saying (attachment=0)DSC04542.JPG(/attachment) or whatever, and all start saying (attachment=11)$matches(2)(/attachment)

(all square brackets turned curvy)

The pictures still show up fine, so maybe it's not really a problem, but it'll be a bit confusing if something has got muddled and you're trying to work out which picture is where!

Hi I am trying to download the GPX for Meall Glas and Sgaith Chuil from Glen Dochart and get an error:

Is this also a result of the upgrade?

PS I tried to type the error in but I was prevented as the site thought it was SPAM. I tried to paste a sceenshot but was prevented as the image was too wide. gggrrrrr

Thanks all

nigheandonn - that's not to do with the update (I reversed the changes and only started rolling it out again 30 minutes ago). The way attachments work in the forum software is irritating/ confusing when editing posts with photos :?

br00ny - thanks, that's been fixed

homerbarry - thanks, that's been fixed

All working now. Many thanks. First time I have ever had a problem. This is by far and away the best site I use. Thanks for all your hard work

I've now fully implemented the changes as of a few minutes ago. Walkhighlands should now be running about 30% faster hopefully.

You mean on the GPS planner?

I've reversed the changes again whilst we investigate GPS planner search facility.

I've now solved the issue with the compatibility of the GPS planner and the upgrade.

The upgrade is now in place once more - hopefully everything will work smoothly this time (and faster than ever before...) 🤞🤞🙏

Routes plotted on OS map won't upload to the walk in 'walks outside Scotland'. The screen just goes blank when I try to attach it.

I was having trouble last night with the 'Open map in GPS Planner' link, but I thought it was just my tablet (or the train wifi) playing up, because it was refusing to show some photos too - it's still opening blank, though, despite the latest fix.

(Thanks for checking on the other one, btw.)

... and if you're looking for things to fix(!), there's a link on all the Wainwright and Hewitt pages which says something like 'Region: North Western Fells', but goes either to a blank page (on my tablet) or to 'The address is invalid' (on the big computer) - presumably it should either go to the main Wainwrights/Hewitts by Region page, or not be a link?

I suspect that predates the update, though - I'm not saying you should worry about it :)
