Loch Ossian Munros

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has managed to do the 3 Loch Ossian Munros in the time between the first and last train? Thinking of doing them on the 2nd of July. The train gets to Corrour at 11:21 and last train departs at 20:31. So that gives 9 hours of walking. Steve Fallon gives an estimated time of 9 hours (http://www.stevenfallon.co.uk/ossianroute.html) so it is doable. Just wondering if anyone has done it?

I've did the 3 and managed to get the 18:35 train back and was standing on the platform for a nearly 2 hours waiting on it.

Saying that I got sleeper that arrived at 08:59.

Depending on your plans you can jump on sleeper at Dalmuir.

I have done the southern two with walk back via the north side of the loch within non-sleeper train times. Doing all three with taking a sleeper into account, shouldn't be a problem. At worst you have to stay at the bunkhouse or leave Beinn na Lap to be climbed with the Loch Treig munros.

...or you could drive up to Rannoch station (if you have a car), get the train to Corrour, then do a slightly modified circuit returning to Rannoch, which would take away the time constraints.

Personally I think the circuit would fit comfortably between the train times for me, but it depends how fast you walk I suppose.

This would be my choice, nothing worse having the clock ticking against you.

If you have got the time it's a great area to stay over night. There is accommodation at the station, there is a youth hostel close by and a bothy within 5 miles from the station and also loads of options for a wild camp.

If you are planning catching the train in and out in one day I would suggest making sure you have enough stuff with you for an overnight stay just in case you miss the train or the train doesn't turn up. it wouldn't be the first time the line has closed or trains haven't run at short notice.

When I did them i had time to go up Beinn na Lap as well, but never. ( ended up sitting in the platform hut for 2 hours though)
Went back and did Beinn na Lap with the Corbett luim Uilliem.

I'd make a weekend of it by using the youth hostel or staying at the station. The pub/restaurant at the station is much improved since coming under new management a couple of years ago.
