Map tiles being stolen from Walkhighlands

This is an odd one, I'd have thought a dodgy apache rule or similar however...

1. Goto https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/lochnagar.shtml
2. Click "View nearby walks"
3. I'd expect to see the map however most of the tiles have the message about the tiles being stolen from walk highlands.

However, I can only reproduce this in safari on osx. Firefox & chrome from the same ip address are unaffected.

This message appears if the computer/browser being used has some privacy plugin or security software that hides the fact you are on Walkhighlands from our tile server, which then triggers the message (as more than half of our tile requests were coming from other people's apps and websites for which we then had to pick up the mapping bills). This then triggers the message. I hope that helps you to find out why Safari is showing the message for you.

Hi Paul, that would make sense but theres nothing desperately unusual about my safari config. I'll maybe run it through the debugger to see if anything crops up.

May or may not be this.
This line of code - <meta name='description' content="Dark Lochnagar with its magnificent northern corrie is the highest, most popular and much the finest mountain of the Mounth - or perhaps even of the Cairngorms as a whole. It was immortalised in verse by Lord Byron."><meta name='referrer' content='origin-when-crossorigin' />

Is triggering the following error in safari as the referrer content type is wrong -
Failed to set referrer policy: The value 'origin-when-crossorigin' is not one of 'no-referrer', 'no-referrer-when-downgrade', 'same-origin', 'origin', 'strict-origin', 'origin-when-cross-origin', 'strict-origin-when-cross-origin' or 'unsafe-url'. Defaulting to 'no-referrer'.

That's interesting, thanks. Looking into this, it seems there was a typo in the original official spec, that asked for crossorigin (which we implemented). Chrome was built requiring crossorigin without the hyphen. Although from what I've read, because of this, browsers are now supposed to support both versions.

Changing to cross-origin now and testing across all the browsers I have access to.

Does this mean you didn't have the problem on the GPS planner and walk maps?

Hi Paul, it was just those maps.

And (isn’t IT wonderful) following yesterday’s safari12 update the tiles error has gone away!

Ah, I did put in the hyphen though 8)

Thanks for this. We do get a fair number of people who complain they get them on all maps, but I think that is to do with them having some sort of plugin that hides the referrer.
