Postby Chris Mac » Sat Nov 03, 2018 1:08 am

I quickly threw this together to help me see exactly where the MWIS forecast areas are and thought i'd share it here in case anyone else finds it useful:

Useful graphic Chris. Often wondered why the MWIS doesn't have something like this on its website. Thanks for posting 👍

Thanks for doing this. I too am surprised that they don't have a map that you can click on to access the relevant forecast. I fed this back to them but no changes yet.

Thanks

This is why I like the met office approach. Shows the areas the forecasts apply to.

Very handy - thanks for posting. I was wondering which forecast to use for Rum the other day.

Rum appears to be right on the border between W and NW Highlands, so its probably worth reading both forecasts. It's also not clear whether NW Highlands really includes the Outer Isles or Orkney.

You're all very welcome, it was a rush job as you can see, made using the GPS map and waypoints. My first one included Shetland but was too tall, I also have an option with Orkney but decided to keep that in (sorry Shetland) as I figured it was close enough to warrant being included in the Northwest Highlands. I also have a version without Orkney but as there is appetite for this map i'll make a better one tomorrow and improve the accuracy as much as I can.

Updated version using a better map and attempting to get the sections as accurate as possible:

Again, really helpful. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Makes you wonder why the MWIS people haven't done this themselves!
