Lightweight Running Shell Alpkit vs Montane or others

Lightweight Running Shell Alpkit vs Montane or others

Postby Kendonm » Mon Jan 07, 2019 6:27 pm

Anyone run in Montanes Atomic? Great deals on it just now but I’ve never been that impressed with Pertex.

Thinking of splashing a bit more on Alpkits Gravitas.

Other suggestions welcomed.

Gravitas price would be upper limit so OMM, Salomon S-Lab etc out of budget.

I've got the Alpkit Gravitas and I'm pleased with it. The fit is great on me and it's certainly light & packable. In terms of waterproofness I've full confidence in it, breathability is as good as any gore-tex/ membrane I've used.

The hood is wired which is great for such a light thing. I got my girlfriend a second hand one on ebay for half the price so it's worth a look there too.

OMM offer good options, depending on how lightweight you want to go, the Halo is super light 100g ish. A good racing jacket that ticks the FRA rules etc.

I have a mountain equipment impellor. I was looking at the Alpkit gravitas but at the time they put up their prices, stock was low and I found the ME jacket in a sale. Been great for me as a lightweight shell.

When at home I run off-road most days, usually a circuit between 3 - 5 miles. I don't worry about rain in particular but I do worry about the effect of wind. I have solved my problem by buying a £14.50 Decathlon single skin jacket. Its not really waterproof, but it does solve the problem for a while. What its really good for is stopping cold wind. If I warm up I just slip it off and quickly secure it into its own little bag, ends up the size of a tennis ball. The coat and bag weighs next to nothing.
