GPX route file downloads

GPX route file downloads

Postby patbrechin » Sun Oct 13, 2019 5:55 pm

When downloading GPX route files I have always had the option to download to OS Maps which I subscribe to. This no longer appears as an option. Why is this no longer possible?

We haven't made any changes to Walkhighlands - you can still download GPX files as before.

This thread suggests there are current problems with OS Maps.

I’m also having problems downloading GPX files and only get the attached message on screen.

That dialog is one generated by your phone's iOS I think. I don't see the problem - if you click download, the gpx file should be saved to your device? How you can access that then depends on the phone app you are using.

Hi Paul,
I use your service regularly using the same iPhone as I have for some time now without problems (see attached map with downloaded routes) but something definitely appears to have changed recently. Maybe it is my phone but I cannot think what I’m doing differently, hope you can help.
Thanks for providing such a great site which we appreciate.
John

Looks like IOS13, pauls right nothing has changed on the site but the files you download are accessed by the wee blue arrow right of the address bar now.

I tried a non wh gpx file with the same error in os maps which means the fault lies with the app.

It appears that my issue is caused by iOS 13 and I’ve been in contact with UK Map who were kind enough to do a bit more research and came up with a workable solution. Although it may not be the most elegant fix, it does at least allow my to download routes to UK Map.
‘...1. Start at e.g. a walkhighlands page and touch a
"Download GPS Waypoints - GPX" link then "I Agree -
Download The File".

2. You get a popup saying "Do you want to download
"something.gpx"?. Touch "Download".

3. Nothing appears to happen, boo.

4. Go to the "Files" app, and the file is there! (e.g.
under the Recents tab.)

5. Touch the file. The GPX source (gobbledegook) is shown,
boo.

6. Touch the blue square with an arrow point upwards out of
it at the bottom left corner of the screen (on the iPhone;
top left corner on the iPad).

7. There is a row of app icons, likely starting with Apple's
messages, mail, notes etc. Swipe to see more. If UK Map
is included, skip to step 11.

8. The rightmost app icon is "... More"; touch this. Hopefully
"Copy to UK Map" is shown in the list.

9. Don't touch "Copy to UK Map". Instead, touch "Edit" at the
top right. Now touch "+" to the left of "Copy to UK Map".

10. Touch "Done" twice to get back to the row of app icons
in step 7.

11. Touch "Copy to UK Map".

12. UK Map opens and says "New File" ... "Show it now?".
