A great forecast for this day and the next two, but we were committed on the previous evening so could not position ourselves further north. We chose Fiarach as a suitable hill to bag en-route. Easy walking, we started from Dalrigh, followed the track to the wood.
- Good views of Beinn Dorain across a lovely pine forest.
We followed an ATV track up to easier ground.
- Ben Dorain again and snowy peaks beyond
We probably followed the ATV track a bit too far, then struck uphill, passing a nameless lochan.
- Ben More and Stobinian just showing
We approached the summit on a little 'ridge', which stuck out from the surrounding plateau. Lunch at the top, then returning past Lochan Fiarach where we played with reflections for a while,
- Ben Lui peeping from behind Ben Dubhcraig
- Back towards the summit
before taking a slightly more direct line back to the track.
I wonder how many hills there are that you can walk into a cafe on the way back? The day has to be short enough that the cafe is still open. Fiarach scores well here, with the Artisan Cafe in a converted church a very short distance off-route from the bridge.
Here is our approximate route.
