Now I've found it via Google. Seems like cheating as I wouldn't have had a cat in hell's chance otherwise. I couldn't have worked out an English children's programme clue let alone a Scottish one.

Well done Charles. I thought that Balamory had extended its influence south, but what do I know? I am stuck firmly in the eras of Fireman Sam (grandchildren) and Wombles(children). However anyone who has been to Tobermory since it was aired will have come across bewildered children eating their supper in the dark Victorian dining room of the hotel and wondering where all the fun has gone. And there is the "urban legend" of the guy who inhabited the house known to pre-schoolers as Miss Hoolie's house who cracked and instead of politely saying that she had moved (as was his wont) to a child knocking on his door for the umpteenth time said "She died, and I buried her under the patio."
