Guys,

With C19 curving exponentially have you thought about cancelling this?

We don't know if, like flu, the transmission curve it will flatten over the summer (presumably to return towards the end of the year) but it might well be April is one of the last, worst months for transmission for this half of the year. Obviously anyone 'symptomatic' shouldn't attend but you can be a carrier for a week without being symptomatic.

I don't want to be a downer, and it's not like I've met any of you (unless we've randomly spoken on hills), but I've grown rather fond of all your online presences and would hate this Meet to be viewed as a disaster in hindsight.

I think at the very least you should discuss it.

Anyway, stay well.

Hi Marty, yes, I was just about to ask the question, to see what people think, especially as I'm about to have to pay the balance of the accommodation cost.

I'll contact all those who've already paid by PM.

In the meantime, what are people's thoughts?

I am happy to go ahead as planned - plenty can happen between now and the 'meet'.

I agree that things can change between now and 17 April but with the current situation being as it is, I think the best thing would be to postpone this meet until later in the year.

I hope that this event will be postponed as we are not safe out there because of this dreadful Covid-19 lurking around.

Given we are 3 to 4 weeks behind Italy, I would be astounded if the hostel was even open let alone the ability to travel to the meet. Sad but a postponement is inevitable.

Yes, I do think we have to. There are wider considerations than just ourselves, too, which I hadn't initially thought of, but which came out in the recent "C word" thread - like the impact on the local health service is there is an outbreak.

I've spoken to the owner of the hostel, and the situation for him and his family is catastrophic - he's had to let staff go, move into a caravan, etc. etc. - and he's very doubtful he will be able to survive. I imagine this will be the case with many hostels, which are marginal businesses at the best of times. I really do hope that government looks after small businesses properly - 5.7m of them in the UK - before they run out of cash...

Very sorry to all. I've PM'ed all those who'd already signed up.
