I love ‘end of’. It says much about the quality of thought by the user don’t you think? It usually highlights a disregard for factual input in my opinion. But thanks ‘end of’.

I’m glad she runs the Scottish government. She’s far from perfect and there are, indeed, areas that could be addressed better. The Loch Lomond national park bourach is but one close to me and I have other gripes. I’m still able to recognise the job she does in very difficult circumstances.

I would prefer to talk about hillwalking. Not garbage spoken by politicians!

Kinda depressed and disappointed how this thread has degenerated into a slagging match about politics. Not what I usually expect from WH'ers.

I get that people have opinions, and that's cool. But is this site really the place to sound off on these issues? Be nice to get back to helpful, respectful and good-natured banter about outdoorsy stuff. God knows theres enough heavy-duty worrisome issues going on out there justnow.

Maybe I'm just a tad over-sensituve.

I see this site as something of a Sanctuary from all that stuff. My 'safe place'.

Quite right, and for the most part this thread has been unusually level-headed and thoughtful. Unfortunately there are always going to be those who want to get on the other side of any argument while adding nothing to it.

Couldn't agree more with Chartles T and Lightfoot. Let's get back to being informative and helpful and leave the bickering out of it. We are all on a steep learning curve with the the "C" thing. I know my views have shifted from even a week ago. Now I am off for one of my favourite walks along the coast. Nothing quite like it for restoring the equilibrium and I am unlikely to meet anyone after the first mile.

I just saw a request from msp advising no visitors to come to highlands. Most responses I saw from locals agree. I can understand why. I was thinking at least hill walking cant be affected but it looks like I will have to stick to local walks for the foreseeable. Almost want to catch the thing to get it over with.

The Government and health officials are encouraging outdoor activities so long as the social distancing criteria are met. If you go up a hill, don’t come close to people and then return home that day you won’t cause any problems. Even isolated camping won’t hurt.

I understand that what they are trying to discourage is hundreds, if not thousands, of people hitching up their caravans and descending on the Highlands to sit out the emergency.

The local hospitals in rural areas have no capacity to treat seriously ill people.

So as long as you don’t socialise and return home I can’t see a problem with enjoying the hills.

I could of course be way off the Mark.

If you did catch it and self-isolated for a week until you were no long infectious then, assuming you aren't elderly or are immunocompromised, you'd very likely end up fine and yes it would be best for everyone as you'd have the antibodies and not go around transmitting it.

While I'm at it, I just upped my DD monthly payments because this website gives me enough that I feel it is worth supporting, and it needs money to continue.

This is a picture of a hall on Barra posted by Angus MacNeill the local mp. This is what people are preparing for and it’s why they are asking folk not to travel. Why would the authorities be setting up such schemes if they don’t expect difficulties. The nearest hospital on the islands is in Inverness and Fort William. It’s worth reminding folk that it’s not about 6ou. You might recover but who have you infected?

There seems to be a general thought process that younger people will be fine. The worldwide data doesn't support this however. There are reported deaths in all age groups including children. What is most dangerous about that belief though is that younger people are not socially distancing themselves. With a robust immune system, they are the age group most likely to be infected with the virus but be without any symptoms. Regardless of whether they are in danger themselves, there is a massive risk of them becoming silent super spreaders. This is a recipe for disaster until we have blanket testing. It's very wrong to assume it is ok for people to carry on as normal until they show symptoms, then they self isolate.
