Descent from Sgurr Fhuaran down WNW ridge into Glen Shiel?

Hi, new poster to the forum however have been a member for a while and have found the trip reports very useful. Am currently planning trips for when we can start to return to normal.

I’ve read a couple of trip reports and seen mentioned in the Five Sisters route guide on this website, that it is possible to descend from Sgurr Fhuaran down the WNW ridge.

If anyone knows what the descent is like and how easy it is to cross the river at the bottom, I would be really grateful.

Thank you

I'll reiterate my preference for the route up the Affric Kintail way then gaining the ridge from the North at Glenlicht House. Negates the need for two cars or any road walking. Just saying...

In good weather, the route is doable if you're careful - it is steep, very sustained and your quads will take a pounding.
You can cross the river up towards the campsite, where the bridge is.

I wouldn't entertain it in bad weather - one wee slip, and it's a long way to roll.

I did this route - it's tough on the knees, no respite at all, just a steep descent all the way to the valley floor. I did the walk with someone else to do the 2-cars option, so we'd left a car in a layby near where we'd finish the descent. We just crossed the river more or less at that point. Just over knee deep, though not fast flowing .....but of course that will be very dependent on recent weather. I'm not sure it was a better option than doing the full route to be honest.
