Drove out for a day trip from Edinburgh. When we arrived (around 10 am), the parking area at Inverlugas had seemed to have just filled its last spot, but we were able to park on the street safely in the margin. The day was mostly sunny but the last 500 meters or so we were essentially walking through a cloud. The very summit of the mountain offered no view unfortunately on this day, but we were able to walk back down and through the break in the cloud and sat to have our lunch with a lovely view of Loch Lomond. On the descent, Ben Lomond poked its head out of the clouds and we had a full view of it. The autumn colours were lovely. Time taken noted here (5.5 hours) included about 30 minute lunch break plus a detour over to the top of the Dam.
The first 1.5 miles or so is fairly level tarmac road, and then there is a turnoff point where the trail is a combination of rocky mountain trail and grass/dirt track. There were definitely bits that I was happy I was wearing waterproof boots, but no gators were needed for this walk. There were times where the entire foot of my boot was submerged in mucky water. Some scrambly bits but not overly technical. Just a very steep bit coming up from the tarmac path for about a mile or so.
