Gairich & Sgurr Mor

Hi there. I am planning on running Gairich & Sgurr Mor in the near future . My options as I see it (without a kayak!) are to come in from the east along Glen Kingie from Quoich dam or from the south at Arkaig. Either way I will aim for Alt a’ Choire Ghlas and attack each from there, taking in Sgurr an Fhuarain of course. Can anyone recommend one approach over the other? Can a part of either the approaches be cycled?

Have a look at Steven Fallon's blog for 9 April 2019 where he describes a cycle route along Glen Kingie to reach the col between Gairich and Sgurr an Fhuaran. This might answer your cycling question.

I think a bike would be more a hindrance than a help on the Arkaig approach to Kinbreak.

I believe its possible to cycle from Poulary along the forestry track at least as far as the end of the plantation below Gairich. The track is fairly good. You might also be able to get a bike from the Quoich dam but you'd probably be pushing it around the worst of the bog.

Can't vouch for the Kingie approach but did SM and SaF from Arkaig. A bike will only take you are far as Glendessary Lodge. The route over from there, if you choose that glen, is fine if a little boggy. The main difference between the two approaches is the crossing of the River Kingie required from the south. Even in dryish summer conditions this took some searching for a suitable spot at least with the aim of staying dry. Particularly at the Gairich end it could be challenging after decent rain and you might need to go much further west to cross than would be helpful.
