New Coronavrus Tiers and Hillwalking/Campervanning

As Malky C says, the official guidance has been clarified today.

Those in tier 3 or 4 areas are permitted to travel upto a maximum of 5 miles outside of their local authority to begin their outdoor exercise.

Aye, good post also, but what you going to do about it?

For me the new laws are not really acceptable but I probably will stick to them for now.

As for the guidance - it's just that, guidance not law.

Anyone looking at the advice should consider how it is going to affect their mental health among other things. They should also consider the study (widely ignored) which has said mountaineering activities have been negligible in transmitting the covid.

The bigger issue and most unpalatable thing for many in the highlands is that we will probably be forced into a lockdown because the southeast of england issues is what dictates how everyone else should live.

Alteknacker’s post is about as much common sense I’ve read on COVID-19. Unfortunately the job lot of politicians can’t or won’t see it as that.
For me it puts an end this year to the hills. December the 2nd won’t see an end to it as they all strive to outdo each other in their efforts to mess the entire situation up. Resigned to a long winter awaiting spring and hopefully some rays of light for the future.

Anyone else have a feeling of déjà vu?

New rules and guidance are issued and some immediately try to find reasons why they shouldn't apply to them.

The Scottish Government have been sensible in not imposing mandatory travel restrictions because they could not be enforced. Instead they have asked the public to travel into or out of a tier three area unless strictly necessary.

The SG are asking the public to be sensible too.

It is not difficult. No one is going to die it they don't do a hill or two.

If 2020 can be used as a predictor of 2021, travel restrictions were lifted at the start of July and gradually reintroduced in October. Recommendations for winter slippers anyone?

Hopefully some lessons will have been learned so 2021 is not a repeat of 2020.

At least the tiers are a slightly better idea so those in areas with very little corona don’t have the draconian 5 mile limit imposed unnecessarily on them again.

The FM is considering putting the country into level 4 now if furlough funding is available past December. Should be an answer on this soon.

Surely she is only considering tier 3 in to full lockdown.
The only way to reduce r number further in Grampian and highlands is to close schools, the numbers are so low in those areas..that’s is in my uneducated opinion of course

"I made clear last week that we might yet have to go further and we can't rule out a move to level four for all parts of the country.

"While that decision would never be easy, there is no doubt that the availability of a more extensive furlough scheme would make it slightly less difficult, because workers would have more of their wages paid.

"The decision we have to weigh up is should we take the opportunity of more generous financial support to step harder on the brakes now, to drive down infections."

Indeed, but ‘professional’ ha ha football teams are traversing Scotland, including lower pyramid teams including un-salaried University teams comprising players from all over the place, presumably travelling by bus
Alteknackers post was spot on.

My exercise will continue to be circuits of Camelon graveyard.

They aren't travelling by bus and are subject to strict social distancing measures off the field.
There are no university teams in national leagues and the LL is a professional league whether or not two teams are amateur. Same as the SPFL is pro regardless of the status of Queens Park.

Hardly a week goes by that we don't hear about footballers ignoring the rules and catching covid.
