Waterproof overtrousers?

Waterproof overtrousers?

Postby AyrshireAlps » Wed Dec 02, 2020 10:27 pm

Any recommendations?

Looking for a couple of pairs for the good lady and I, around the £100 mark each? Looking for something with 3/4 zips for easy on/off.

Ta!

I recently invested in some berghaus paclite overtrousers - usually about £100-120 but got them for £65 on black Friday, amazon have them for £85 just now

They have the zip right up to your hip so nice and easy to get on/off and are gore-tex, pack down really small too!

Although I have some very serious Marmot overtrousers for heavy conditions, I've had a pair of Berghaus Deluge trousers for several years now and they have proved very effective for day to day use. Around £60 at the moment I think. On the back of their success I made the mistake of buying a Deluge jacket in a sale. It proved neither properly waterproof nor breathable unlike the trousers which are both.

Another vote for Berhaus Deluge over trousers. I got them from here - https://www.outdoorclothing.co.uk/mens-c4/trousers-c36/berghaus-mens-deluge-2-0-pant-p12034

Haven't used them on the hill yet but they have been through some very heavy rain at low level and kept me dry.

Rab Kinetic Alpine trousers.More like a soft-shell material but fully waterproof. Jacket is excellent too.

How's the durability of the Berghaus Paclites? I had been thinking about them but a pal who worked on Tiso advised me against them, saying that they aren't very hard-wearing.

I have Paclites and they are not particularly hard wearing but they spend a lot of time in my pack. I'm on my second pair - I like them.

My wife uses Deluges, they are more robust. She is happy with their performance. The reason she purchased them was that she was able to get them in a short leg length - still a little bit too long, but far better than anything else she had tried with regard to length.

I've had my Paclites for years, one tear from my crampons that I patched up with Tentesious tape.

Deluge version are more robust, but are heavy and hot.

Had the Deluge ones for years, have been great. Not the lightest, but I find the ventilation really good - unless the rain's at exactly the wrong angle I tend to have them buttoned-up but with the zips open.
