Clare (my daughter) 6th Munro and what a great walking partner she has turned out to be. She shows determination you rarely find nowadays and considering all her previous outings have been spent in cloud, battered by high winds and been given more than her fair share of rain for the year, I'm sure her pals at school would think there is more enjoyment going through the local garage car wash........ without the car.

Early start from Perth and reached the public car park up Glen Muick. Got the gear on and we were on our way by 09:30hrs. Walking towards the Spittal we could see how overcast it was. We went through the pinewood, following the track a further 3km to the col at the head of Glen Gelder.

Once more into the clouds dear Clare!

Come on Clare.... on your feet!
Lochnagar (11).JPG

Now I strongly advise you..... stick to your left!
Lochnagar (16).JPG

Ah!..... I see why you said that dad.
Lochnagar (19).JPG

Now I had told her not to get too triumphant once we reach the cairn, cos the highest point was a little further on. There's no telling the youth of today.
Lochnagar (23).JPG

Hold on a minute, the cloud seems to be lifting....
Lochnagar (28).JPG

Hey dad, is this what heavens like?
Lochnagar (41).JPG

I hope so Clare, I hope so.
Lochnagar (43).JPG

Let's push on to the trig point.
Lochnagar (51).JPG

Ha! ha! ha! My pals will see the point of all this now.
Lochnagar (61).JPG

Oh well I suppose it's back to reality..... down through the clouds.
Lochnagar (67).JPG

Down there to the loch and along to the left, we'll be back to the car in an hour and a half.
Lochnagar (68).JPG

Well what a day, enjoyment and elation followed by fatigue. So much so Clare didn't have any energy left to place her boots into the car. I wonder if they are still sitting in the car park waiting for our return visit?

Never mind, a small price to pay.

Great report and pics. If you could post some advice on how to persuade a teenage daughter to go on a hillwalk that would be ideal!!! My girls (16 and 19) find the idea of getting out of bed before mid-day at the weekend totally alien. Well done Clare - though I hope leaving the boots didn't signify retirement from munro walking!

Hi andyfitz, Clare is 16 next month and it's just the start of her Munro 'career'. We got a pair of replacement boots today, the only stipulation she made was that they should be purple. Maybe that's the incentive......... purple boots!

I know what you mean about teenagers, mines is 15 and the walk we did in the Linn of Dee was absolutely classic

"its too long"

"I'm thirsty"

"I'm hungry"

"My feet hurt"

"this is boring"

"yeah, the hills... so what like..."

"wish I had my mp3"

"I'm being eaten alive by all the bugs"

"want me x-box"

"hate me mum for making me do this"

I'm sure Clare was a lot better than this. My Andrew's hill walking days kinda started and ended in one go

I should count myself lucky I suppose. She seems to enjoy the great outdoors but the ipod does get a look in as I huff and puff up the hills.

She also likes to get back in time if her boyfriends football team have a home game.

One of my fave hills - did it justice with that. Stick with Clare, she clearly knows what she's doing.

Enjoyed your pics Mike, sharing a temp inversion with your daughter should be a lasting memory. The clouds were much lower on Monday morning, I'm sure loads of lucky walkers had a similar experience!
