SKIDDAW DODD - NORTHERN FELLS

Our final walk of the week and we parked at the Mirehouse Tea Rooms on the A591.

Straight away there is a lovely little watery dell

Then it is good paths that steeply climb to an area called Long Doors

The area of Long Doors is where the steep descent from Carl Side/White Stones meets the Dodd path and where the summit path veers off to the right, 20 yards up there is a seat with a cracking view across Derwent, Newlands etc

From here the summit is just visible

It was good walking from here as the path winds to the summit of Dodd, from here we had the views that we didn't have off Skiddaw.

Within a few metres of the top there are many photo op's with great backdrops

We had had the top to ourselves but now it was getting busy so we set off down with one last photo of the glistening Derwent Water from the "seat"

It was a steady walk down back to the car,and a coffee in the tea rooms, doesn't sound right We had ticked some tops off and I had the promise of a great saturday walk to come, happy walking, love Sue

Presumably no ospreys this time of year. Good to note that you can see the view. It used to be completely forested over.

I thought the view from the top is nearly as good as that from Skiddaw, the biggest advantage is Dodd is usually clear of mist when Skiddaw is clagged out ! Its just a shame that forestry operations have left it looking so scruffy.

The amount of times I've been up there and never knew it was called 'Long Doors'! Isn't it really expensive parking at Mirehouse? I usually park in one of the smaller laybys along the roadside further towards Orthwaite...

Yes MC, a bit pricey but we'd had enough walking that week,it does look scruffy but the views are very good. As we looked up the Ullock ridge was still clagged in, so that was 3 days running
